What is a good length of homemade long board. i was thinking about a 3 foot 2x4 leveled on a plane. Or is that to long?

I have done alot of reading about guide coats and hope to have this thing straight when all done. just not flat. bed sides have some natural curve to them.

What do they mean by tri coat, paintscratch.com has color codes for most vehicles. some of the colors i like are refered to as tri coat. very afraid of tiger striping.

Just on a budget and want to have the pride of doing it myself.
But know there are certain corners you just cant cut. kind of like puting 3 thousand dollar heads on a stock bottom end.
