Oh, click on the bikes section and scroll down. It's not the first green bike, it's the one with the flames (of course) lol.
Very very similar.. want to know the funny part about this... The guy that is building the bike gave me pics of that bike... that's where he came up with the scheme...lol.... i'm just doing it my way.. doing the flames much different.. and the green is a little brighter.. small world.
But what about those girls,, we don't have them like that where i'm from...
Haha are you serious? Yeah my uncle that owns the company is named Travis. Actually I have two of my uncles and they BOTH own it together basically. Hard to explain but yeah. I remember I was a little kid and walked into the shop once when they did the modeling on their bikes (back when they were doing more like Harleys I think it was and just plain customizing) and naked girls on the bikes getting pictures. I still remember that haha, I was a little kid probably like 5. Yup... Those nice ol' memories! hahaha
what color green is that? Is it a candy or just a base?It does look really sweet.Almost the same color i painted my bike.Mine was candy green over silver base with green metal flake.I cleared it with dupont 7220 worked great and buffed awsome (only buffed the tank)
JUST WANTED TO SHOW MY WORK. 1966 FRD FST BK MUSTANG. PPG BASE (DBC). SIDE DRAFT BOOTH. NO AIR MAKE UP. SAVING MY MONEY TO PURCHASE AIR MAKEUP. COST JUST AS MUCH AS THE BOOTH. MY OWN BOOTH IN MY BACK YARD. COOL??????
ANOTH PIX
never had much use for clear after the lacquers of the 70's.
I just stick tith DuPont Imron color and never need a clear for that "wet look".
with gloss in the 110-115 range everyone thinks it's cleared but I have no worry about a clear to F**k up later...
just wondering- never had much luck color sanding/buffing- was always afraid to touch it. a dude said color sand/buff after 24 hours while it's "soft" enough?
I dont use imron anymore unless its going on a truck nose. The clears today are so user freindly and easy to sand and buff 3 coats and its pretty hard to buff through.I buff with a wool pad and some extra cut compond then work up to glaze.I've never had any real problems as far as peeling, fading,etc.... Pluss base coats are easier for a good metalic. But imron is super tough thats why i like it for truck noses. If you can spray imron good,b/c c/c would spray easy.
Were you meaning Heat makeup for your booth ?Quote:

Or a fresh Air Respirator system ?
What clear are you spraying over your DBC ?
By the way , looks like you have a nice system .
The color is sour apple and it's just basecoat... lots of pearl in it though.Quote:

pbodyman ,
The Global D893 - D894 clears buff like butter ,
Its why I switched years ago over my DBU .
SprayTech
the shop i run has always used dupont since i've been there and they worked very well with only one come back in 11 years for chipping (but it was a traktor nose that had seen 100;000 miles )so its been good. the g2 4500 we use every day sprays nice (I think it dries to fast we bake at 160 for 20 mins with10 min cool then you can buff) and buffs good within 4 days then it starts to get hard.I have used ppg in high school when they first came out with globel (about 10 years ago) and it worked good but buffed hard.I'm sure its better now.The last ppg stuff i used wwas dp primer for my motor.I havent seen a better primer than that.My boss is very old school so he'll be using dupont as long as he's in business.:"Old habits die hard "
I have used PPG for 30 years and will never change myself , its what a man gets used to and knows .
Global has come along way since it came out , but I still like the DBU line , as it doesnt have a lift cycle .
SprayTech
A lift cycle? whats that.
all paints have a window , in the application , if let sit to long or apply to fast between coats , lifting may occur .
Plus if you have to get back into a fresh paint job , lifting is likley to happen !
I also like global clears as there is no solvent popping .
Spray
never had a solvent pop problem.i have never had a lift problem either with a redo or the like.
but good to know.
your either very lucky , or not been laying color for very long , not to see any lifting ;)
Hate to see a job come in wrecked , and see some one has been there before !
Products arent always compatiable .....LOL
I will have to say DBU is some harsh base , it penetrates way to good sometimes .
Spray

YES I MEANT A HEAT MAKEUP... THOSE CAN COST UP TO $13,000. HAVE TO SAVEUP.... MY SIDE DRAFT DOES NOT HAVE PLENIUM, MORE MONEY TO HEAT UP... I NORMALY USE DCU 2021 OR 2002 AND SOMETIMES DC4000....
BUT ON THIS MUSTANG I USED TRANSTAR EURO CLEAR. CAME OUT LIKE GLASS.... SCUFFED AND BUFFED AND MADE LOOK LIKE SHOW ROOM FINISH...... TALK ABOUT DOI.... WILL SEND THOSE PHOTOS LATER... NOT AT THAT COMPUTER TODAY....
Just for your info , PPG will not stand behind that paint job if something goes wrong down the line .
They are real sticklers for using their full product line .
I know PPG products are expensive , I just had my buddy order and pick up all his material for his 65 pro street Chevelle , 1278.00 bucks , I am glad I had an EMS crew standing by to restart his heart .....LOL
Spray
I think that DBC is User friendly compare to DBU. I did have lifting when i used DBU during custom paint jobs. DBC has 24 window and now with DBC500 I can open my window for another 24 hours before the first window. Some art work can take soem time. DBU was just a lttle to much work to do the same. To much build can cause lift.......
DBC has a lift widow for sure , its why I dont use it , unless you use the hardner for the base .
I have see DBC lift itself for letting it sit to long between coats too .
Plus if you let DBC or DBU dry longer then 24 hours , the clear will peal off in sheets , unless you are using the DBC 500/DBU 500 over the base then scuffing before clearing .
Trust me , I have seen and heard all the horror stories .
PPG doesnt want the base sitting for a 24 hour length of time unless scuffing and re-coating with a coat or 2 of base then clearing , or the mention above !
As adhesion loss will occur .
Spray
Don't get me wrong i use PPG most of time. 90% But ppg does not warranty 100% of thier products. I car i did, dcu 2021 milked on black. It turned white. They sent a paint who then sent a paint tech. they asked what the temp was 95 it was. TX weather ;) what reducer i used, med it was. Then they asked about my filter system. Well i have a Sata 400 seriers two stage filter system. They asked what based i sprayed funny, I ordered it straight from the sTore dbc. i BROKE IT DOWN FOR THEM.
DPLF50 EVERCOAT RAGE, K36 , DAS 3025 SEALER, DBC, DCU 2021. EVERCOAT RAGE IS NOT A PPG PRODUCT THEY SAID. MAYBE IT WAS THE FILLER. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. SO I GOT THE TECH TO TAKE THE CLEAR WITH HIM. 3 DAYS LATER HE SAID I HAD A BAD PATCH OF CLEAR.
SO I ASKED WHAT DO I DO? HE SAID TO REPAINT. HE SENT ANOTHER KIT OF DCU 2021. I ASKED WHAT ABOUT THE BLACK BASE. SO HE SENT A GALLON OF THE BLACK BASE. THEN I ASKED ABOUT THE TAPE PAPER SAND PAPER AND LABOR. I NEVER HEARD A THING FROM HIM AGAIN. I TOLD MY JOBBER AND THEY SENT MOST OF THE MATERIALS. SO YOU SEE PPG DOES NOT GIVE YOU 100%. I HAVE BEEN USING PPG FOR 10 YEARS. BUT I FEEL THEY ARE NOT PEOPLE, PEOPLE... SINCE THIS I HAVE YET TO SEE ANOTH PPG REP JUST MY JOBBER PAINT REP.
Yeah i know what you mean sometimes the reps aren't doing what you'd expect... they talk a big game untill you have a prob..
I shouldnt have said i ve never seen a lift problem.I have but it was only when i sprayed it to fast or heavy.I have had some problems with going over some a/m bumpers that were primed. Or had to fix something in the base.Dupont has takin care of the one major problem we have had. They wont stand behind it if you dont use all there products or if you dont use the acctivators. They dont warrenty custom work or there hot hues line.I have had more problems with sem trim black.
Let me throw another brand out for comments. It's Southern Poly
out of Georga.
I've heard so many good things about there epoxy primers & clears that I'm going to try them, after using PPG products for 40 years.
Has anone tryed their products? They are a on-line co. & are priced cheaper than PPG. A gallon of So poly cost about the same as a qt of PPG . I hane talked to the owner & he is extremely friendly & will give advice even on other peoples products.
http://southernpolyurethanes.com/
I also am using a another on-line co for sandpaper of all types.
Theis product again are about 1/3 of my local PPG paint supplier
http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/
I'm tired of paying the high cost of paint supplies!.........Don
never heard of it.But there are a lot of good products out there from what i've seen.Nothing to do but try it.It's gotta be better then paying around 250 for a kit of clear.
Ok here's another pic of the 893 in action.. i'm getting better with it... I think i'm going to stick with this clear for my higher dollar jobs and i'll keep the transtar around for the budget job...
Looks GREAT! I still can't believe that he showed you my uncles bike for an example. I told my father that and he was like "oh some hot rod guy here in NC saw it?" I was like "no someone on the internet." He was surprised and said that is pretty crazy lol. Which now that I think back on it my uncle is getting pretty huge, if you notice on American Hot Rod (for those that even watch that show because I know I don't watch it unless someone my house is) they wear his hats and shirts.
Anyways, who makes that clear? I am sure you said it already, either that or I am an idiot and dont know the makes by the numbers or code there....
I know that cracks me up too... there's some more pics if you click my link on the bottom of my posts.. but the clear is made by ppg.. it's from their global line.. it's as expensive as hell. and as far as your uncle goes didnt' they just do a frame for boyd
I am not sure... Did you see that they did? I haven't talked to either of my uncles for some months now. I talked to my great grandmother on the phone a few weeks ago (she owns my uncles old chopper shop when he kind of first started building custom Harleys and all) and she lives right near one of the uncles that partly owns the company.... She never said nothing to him. I may call him and see what's going on and ask him about it... But did you see something about someone building a frame?... Oh that BIKE they did huh?!!! If that is what your talking about then I wouldn't be surprised if he did it.
Yup they built the frame for the bike they did suposedly
and i just added another pic to my link of the bike assembled. but all bare metal
Looks great.... Oh and don't think I forgot about ordering stuff from you either man. I actually found a friend that works at a Sikkens (sp) automotive store and is getting me my materials for really cheap. I still plan to get a IR lamp and IR thermometer from you and possibly a SATA if this guy can't get it to me for a good price.... Maybe I will call my uncle and tell him to fly me out there and work with him. Make me some money. haaaaahaha just messing, I don't want to move out to California again, too expensive and too over crouded. He already asked me. :D
I just looked at the website of yours more and saw more pictures of your body shop, etc. Looks much bigger than the other pics I saw, that is a sweet setup you have there.
As far as ordering things don't worry about it.. no biggie to me... as far as paint goes your probably better off getting it local as shipping stuff like that is expensive... also thanks for the pos comments... and as far as working on bikes that'd be sweet go for it if you got the opp.. and as far as my shop goes theirs 2 buildings here also...lol.. not sure if you can see both of them in the pics or not... but yeah i have a bit of space just for one person but their both full of ridz..lol... so i can't complain about that...lol..
