steering wheel change? (color)
I'm going to change the color of the interior of my car and I'd like to change the color of my steering wheel to match. Can anyone recomend a product and procedure that will do such a thing?

I've painted many steering assemblies to match interiors. it's basically the same procedure as any other paint job.
first strip down the column. take off/out anything that you don't want painted.
next, scuff the crap out of it. make sure there are no shiny spots. everything should look like it has a satin finish.
spray your color/clear/whatever. i like to do this when i spray the rest of the interior. this makes sure the paint/flake/coverage is exactly the same.
reassemble.
install.
enjoy.
if you have any other questions, ask away.
good luck

I understand that the steering colum is the same as any other metal piece, but what procedure will I need to use when changing the color of the actual steering wheel itself (it's plastic)??
From what I understand, it needs to be dyed, not painted.Levi

I've painted over plastic steering wheels with no adverse effects. same prep procedure as metal. dying will change the color, but I'm not sure of the color underneath will affect the final color. I've had no complaints about the wheels I've painted. some of which were eight years ago. I'll look into the dying procedure for you, but painting should produce the desired result. If at first you don't succeed... skydiving probably isn't for you.

Steering wheels get a lot of wear plus they have quite a build up of hand oils on them......both contribute to the difficulty of getting anything to stick. The typical dyes work of non wearing plastic surfaces made from abs or vinyl but it is coubtful that it would last on a steering wheel.
Why not contact one of the outfits that restore steering wheels and ask how they process color changes? OR, there must be a source for replacement wheels if you are going to change to a relatively common color....or go with a black wheel like they do now....matches everything and doesn't show dirt.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
