Good Paint at good price

I have a 68 chevlle that has the gray spray paint on it. You can imagine how awful it looks. The last thing I'll be doing is to have a real nice paint job put on this car. But untill then I would like to paint it just so it will look okay while it is being restored. And I would like to do it myself. My question is, What is a fairly good paint I could use and what should I mix with it. And what would be some good brands at a good price. Also is there some good tips I should know. I think I would like to paint it red or black. Thanks, John.

If you are intending to repaint later, I would just thoroughly clean and sand the car, and have it painted at one of the national chain stores like Maaco.

It doesn't sound like you have any experience, and you aren't looking for a high quality job. You probably can't paint it for less money than they would charge you in the first place.

The other thing to think about is it'll mean another layer of paint that needs to be taken off when you "paint it for real".

Krylon or Rustoleum paint. its about $7 a quart. thin it out about 60/40 this gives a good coat, looks nice if you can spray it right. and is cheap. I have painted a couple cars this way, with the thought in mind I would have it painted better when done. But the paint job looked so good I left it that way. Had many compliments on how it looked.

I'd go and check with your local paint supplier and ask if they have any mismatch paint. most suppliers have good paint they mix for someone but the color was off, so you can buy top of the line paint at a barging price.

I agree with bob painting and then redoing it makes it more of a hassle.

you ask ed for a cheap paint to paint this car so it would look good while you restore it. my ? is why would you want to spray it if your restoring it. do you want to drive around with a bright red car with a quarter , fender and a hood in primer. i think you are planing on to never repaint and restore it after you paint it. but if you are you mine as well paint it with house paint since your going to strip it and redo it. it would be quick easy and get that gloss oohhhh will it shine . plus that chevelle will final turn some head when they see it. just joking dont try this. rookie

I had some guy stop in that wanted cheap paint job on his running boards,, then he complained to me that he went to the paint store, and bought a quart of paint, and can you believe this, they charged him 14 dollars for a quart of paint...lol... I told him he should just spray paint it if he's looking to get it done that cheap.. well that's what he said he'll prob do..lol..
