I've seen conflicting post from you about DPLF.

Do you recommend using it as a sealer or not?

Yes I do , especially over bare steel , My conflict is using it for a sealer under top coat , as It seems to act like a sponge and soaks up the shine just a tad, unlike it did when it ( DP) was a lead base product.
But I highly recommend using it for a ground base sealer over bare steel !

There are now better products for sealing off your primer surfacer just before color !
