    paint gun

I'm new to the whole painting scene and was wondering what kind of gun to get. i want a decent one all steel parts that i can get different tips for maybe. basically i'm painting fibreglass, if possible it would be awesome to get a gun that will paint the gel-coat on the glass. but if not thats ok too... i will be painting gel coat, primer, colour, and clear, and sometimes acrylic enamel paints.... i would like an hvlp gun i overheard in the paint store thats what everyones using these days.

can someone tell me about a few guns and some differences so i can choose one to best suit my budget and needs. thanks

On the hvlp guns just be aware they require allot more CFM than a siphon gun.......... less pressure but more cfm
I've got a new Devllvis(sp) finishline gun sprays nice but had to change my plumbing and filter to get enough air for it to work nice
I'm not sure of the specs but it takes somewhere around 12 to 14 cfm @ 23psi
I've also got the old Sharps 80 siphon type that worked on my old plumbing but required only about 7 or so cfm but 50 or so psi
I've had the sharps bout 25yrs so not sure on the cfm for that gun

    Hope this helps some

CFM........ is cubic feet per minute
It's the amount of air that has to go through the gun to spray a good pattern

So you will need a compressor that will pump enough air to keep up with the gun
So base your gun purchase on the compressor you own...... or if your buying both make sure if anything the compressor puts out more than the gun uses
