heres a question for the paint guys

i had a bunch of old pimer sealer laying around some old corlar and some gaserite. no reducer or activator.
i was woking on my bucket and had done the framework for the floor out of square tubing i was just going to paint some undercoat on it and be done with it.
i looked at this old primer sealer and decided to just paint this stuff on as i was god it stuck and dried slowly but doesnt look any different that the primer i laid on the t bucket body that was acivated. it even sands nice .
heres my question. is the acivator in a 2 stage paint for production and speed only or does it acivate a hardener in the paint itself that will not acitivate if air dried.
i built my grill/cowl and i used some of this unactivated primer/sealer on the underside for a sealer and seems to work really well but of course dries slow
my bodyshop buddies didnt have a answer but admitted using old primer sealer on undersides of things and not having problems with it either.

Any paint will dry eventually......the catalyst helps it dry quicker....and harder.

Activator/Catylist/Hardner helps in dry times , and durability.
Its also an integral part of the primer or paint.

Bad things can happen with applying an uncatylized primer that needs catylist , then if you use a catylized single stage or the new base coat clear coats to top coat that uncatylized primer it may cause lifting, poor adhesion, and other bad news.
Then you get to strip it all off and start all over.

If a product requires a catylist, by all means use it , dont skimp because of the price as it may cost you a hell of alot more money and time in the long run!!

thats why it will be used for undercoating in my situation, just seems that it does adhere and dry to a durable finish i may use it to seal the wood panels in my floor
