HVLP siphon feed as it takes less air preassure, does need more CFM though. that compressor should be OK.
Denny's point is good.
Starting with sear's lying about compressor HP.
Soon everyone but the BIG boys were lying. I mean seriously lying!
You cannot take their HP ratings at all!!
It is the same as them saying, "Our compressor, pink floaty butterflies". So go only by the x cfm @ y psi.
I contacted my manufacturer and they said 7cfm @ 40 psi 5.5cfm @ 90 psi. Is that good enough to run a spray gun?
you'll probally be O.K. except that 25 gallon tank will limit ya too how long, you'll need to stop and let it catch up every so often.
what would be a good gun to use?
I'm not real up on that other than HLVP is the only way to go, Maybe Spraytech has a suggestion.
I've never painted anything with a spray gun a day in my life. but instead of wasting 250/qt automotive paint. I'm going to try to use a tractor enamel. My car is already primed, I just have to clean it up and do some minor body work. So this is going to be an experience. I figure I could produce better results with this than using a spray can lol
You wont be happy with that compressor with a HVLP gun...it takes more CFM than that compressor will supply. You will have to keep stopping and waiting for the compressor, cause when it starts up, and you keep spraying, it wont fill the tank as fast as the air you're using. You can run a conventional higher pressure gun with it, but you'll have a ton more overspray. Dont go by the HP rating, it's not accurate at all...always go by the CFM rating, and get the largest you can afford...same for the tank size. My gun is an Accu-spray, and it wasnt cheap, but I use it several times a week, and clean it every time I use it...really clean it. It has been 8 years so far, and still spraying fine. Devilbiss is good, so is Sata...There are others.
Hey what is the down side of him getting just a touchup gun?
Couldn't the pressor run that? He would be putting on a smaller area... wouldn't that be better for a novus?
Less over spray? Am I talking outta my butt?

With a touch up gun the pattern would be to small for painting a car you'd have zebra stripes by the time you were done
The small gun would be fine for jams and stuff like that
I got 2 hvlp guns and I think with the amount of air you have you'd be better off with the old siphon gun of which I also have 2
my old compressor ran my siphon guns fine but would not run the hvlp........ so told wifey I needed a new compressor......cuz ya wouldn't want to waste that money I spent on the new
guns...
I just needed a reason :D

I wondered about that.
Thanks for the info.
