Surface temp for painting?

Need some input and ideas folks. One of my winter projects is to pull all the accessories off my motor and paint it black. Here's my question. It is winter time and even in Northern CA it is cool/cold in an unheated garage. Every morning this week it has been below freezing! I know that is not cold for some of you, but none the less it it is a bit cold for painting. How can I warm my engine sufficiently so I will get good adherence when I paint it? I have thought of everything from using heat lamps, to finding a block heater, to firing it up to warm it up then frantically pulling everything of so I can de-grease and paint before it cools off. I may also be able to get a kerosene type heater to warm the garage up, but would need to shut that off before painting. Also is there a particular tye of paint that would be better suited for cool surface application.

Any suggestions from you cold weather folks, or anyone else for that matter, would be appreciated.
