New To Site!

Hey Guys, my name is Peter and im From Toronto Ontario Canada, and im 17. i just want to say that hot rods are awsome! im actually in to more of the jap car right now like civic and all those other types, but recently i seen on the discovery chanle this show called American Hot Rods, i dont know if any of you have seen it or herd of it. They Take these old cars from the junkyard and turn them in to a peice of work, and after seing one hole project and just hearing the power come from the engine i said to my self " SCREW THOSE PEICES OF CRAP JAP CARS I NEED A HOT ROD!" im guessing that it probably cost thousend and thousend of dollers to get one to looks some thing like
http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/Ca...vy-19-02hr.JPG but it would be worth every penny and every second to have a car like that.My Dad actually has 75 and he bought it for 1500 and is worth 10,000 now and hes pretty much restored it alot, it was it driving condidtion when he bought it, but he worked on the body and engine. not that much on the interior, and it still has the A-track in it and we got some cool tapes to it... also can you let me know if i should just keep on dreaming about having a car like that or any hot rod at any time while im younge
i just have a couple of question about hot rods so here they are!

1. Do you think its a bad idea for some as younge as my self to get a car like that and try to restore it?
2. how much did you guy invest are your first project?
3. where can i get a beat up car like 56 Sedan(like the one i showed up top) or 1960 Ford Sunliner
4.how much should i pay for something like that all beat up?

I think it's a great idea. My first car was a 56 Chevy. I learned alot building that car.

That depends on your area and what shape the car is in. As you shop around you'll get a feel for what the High/Low/Average is.

frist of all I would like to welcome you yo CHR. no questions are stupid how is one to learnj If you dont ask your never to young or to iold to start I didnt get my frist untill just a few years ago got tired of helping other work on there rides dont get me rong i love to help others on there car but when you got the need for soeed. My frist cost me 3,800 that was a 69 sj grand prix then a 78 chevy monza sider w/ a 406 stroker I paid 1200 for it another 3500 in to the motor an suspention and then four cars later igot my 65 c-10 pickup cant really say how much i have invested in that it not done . well there never realy ever done to get a ride it depend on how mush labor of love you want to do just look into the trader mag figurs out a buget and go from there after you get started you wont look at the cost just ask my wife Ive ben in trouble a few times but we wont go there .You do though need let them go or you will have a garage like mine stuffed

Welcome to CHR, Peter. Seventeen is an excellent age to start hot rodding. Another source for price and avialability info would be a club in your area, ask some of the rodders around if they know of a good one or two.

Welcome to CHR. You have joined the best forum on the internet to gain useful information. Restoring a piece of American history is a great place to start. Pick something that won't break the bank, and do it the way that makes you happy. Then it can be used as a stepping stone to move up the ladder to something better.
First car? I think I spent $45 for a 53 Packard, way too long ago. Man, that was a barge.

thanks alot for the info guys, i think i might go this week end to some junkyards just too look at some cars not going to buy just look around!
