Hello From San Jose!
Just found the site this morning while looking for answers on my son's truck build (first rig ever) and I instantly liked the info I got here (i.e. techinspector1 has to be a professor or something because he's schooling me).
In any case, just wanted to intro myself as a father who is helping his son to build his first rig. He'll be driving age this spring so we are using the time to teach, build trade skills, and spend quality time together (away from those damn electronics!). I'll be leaning on you experienced guys to help us through the traps but will try to contribute in anyway I can. Thanks for hosting this site!

Welcome. A lot of knowledge floating around here and generally pretty laid back. Pictures and projects are always welcome and it's great to also see new youngsters getting started.

Welcome my friend to CHR. You have come to the right place for info and
knowledge. My son got interested in drag racing about 3 years ago so I
told him about this site. Although lots of the pics were lost, you can go
to the hot rod forums here and scrool down a little and look for 383 build
by R Dobbs (my son). He took his time and with the help of Richard (tech),
Jerry, Denny, Glen and many more he listened to them and its about as
near perfect as I can come up with. I'm an old school drag racer, but only
helped my son as I could. I let my son do most the work, he listened and
learned, and so did I.
Again, good to have you here and hope you stay with us. We all like pics
too.

Here's a quick pic of the boy's truck. He loves the Nastruck series look!
So far we've finished the suspension/steering, larger 1.25" disk brakes, and gutted/restored the interior (sound/heat barrier, upholstery). The current 17" wheels are getting swapped out for some period correct 15" rally wheels, just waiting for them to come back from powder coat.

That is way cool. I've had a pickup truck of one kind or another ever since I left High School. How about a side shot? Here's my favorite wheel of all time.....

Came in late to this one. Nice truck. I've had several of the square Chevies through the years and really like them.
You ddn't ask, but since your son likes the Nascar thing he probably wants a truck that handles so I'll throw this out. A cheap upgrade for the skinny 1/2 ton front sway bar is to get one off of a 1 ton. It'll bolt right on and when combined with a good rear bar, does wonders for the handling. Does make it ride a little rougher, though.Last edited by Hotrod46; 12-01-2017 at 12:26 PM.

Very nice square body! Is it a 73 or 74? That is a very sweet truck for a first ride. I've been having really bad ideas to take my 76 crew cab short bed and make it 2wd again and drop it low to the ground. I will probably just quit thinking and finish it as a 4x4 though.Ryan

Hey, welcome to CHR! Cool truck! Love the rally wheel idea but I would have gone bigger than 15s....not a surprise to anybody who knows me....LOL!!!
Look forward to seeing more progress!"It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
