    Cool New Member Confused

Alright so I have been searching around the forums and reading all kinda different threads and posts, and this forum is excellent there is a ton of information on here that you would otherwise have to spend hours searching google for. That being said however I am so confused as to why most threads and posts are either from a year or two ago or why some posts refer to something called the "site disruption" lol. If someone could clue me in as to what happened and why so much of these posts and a lotta of this information is from so long ago and why there aren't too many newly dated threads and posts that would be killer. I'm gathering my pictures for a new build thread, so that will be up soon! Thanks for everyone's feedback on my other posts and I like forward to hearing from everyone! Thanks!

Since I've been on this forum almost since day one maybe I can help. I'll spare you the "inside the sausage factory" details and just say that in the roughly 15 years of life this forum has had a lot of water has spilled over the dam. We've had personal wars, server failures (4 or 5 IIRC), lost data, and the typical people turnover that any social organization will experience for a similar array of reasons.

Perhaps the biggest thing that has changed in more recent years is the number of online networking options that people have. Facebook, Instagram, snap chat, and probably a whole bunch more that an old goat like me doesn't know about yet. Couple that with changing interests, personal time constraints, death, and more, people move on.

Some things are constant throughout the history of man though, whether people realize it or not. To that point I offer the notion of, "you get out what you put in". There are some guys on here who've joined up relatively recently.....say the 2 or 3 years, who have actively posted and been readily accepted by the more senior members. So I would encourage you to post away and see what happens. Activity breeds activity.

I think the hobby itself is taking a backseat to life.
With the economy down (whether powers that be want to admit it or not) there is less expendable income available and so bolting expensive parts on to vintage steel gets put on the back burner.

Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

I'd say Uncle Bob's on target. The "disruption" you refer to was back in mid-2011, as I recall, and it was driven by a necessary change in forum software which changed the "Look & Feel" of the screens to a degree. Some features gained, but a few popular features lost (like the "MORE" button that scrolled back through posts in sequential time order) and some members either could not address the changes, or chose not to and dropped out. Some have embraced other formats, using Facebook, etc for their social media "fix".
My $0.02, and my time here is a lot shorter than Uncle Bob's. The key point is Unc's closing - Activity breeds activity.

Well point proven again and again as every thread I ha be started gets at least a few replies and pretty damn quick too, I like it. I definitely see where you're coming from with the other social media outlets, I don't know much about Instagram but there are few Facebook groups that I have found involving the custom car scene or hot rod scene although the I am apart of a few. Still however I sought out a forum and made a account on two others and there was even less activity than this one. I think firebird is onto something with the hobby taking a back seat. Perhaps we can resserect this in the near future... I hope. Lol

I personally would like to say that here is and has always been in my view like family, we have our odd ups and downs which, yes, sadly, I will put my hand up and admit to going right off track at times and have had to be slingshot back off the crash barrier, but the community here is absolutely brilliant and as mentioned in your introduction post, the wealth of knowledge is the best. We have lost a few treasured members who's posts, humour and knowledge are still sorely missed but as mentioned above, nobody is holding a gun to a head making one stay. I personal don't get out in my garage as much as I would want but I'm my Mothers care giver who has Dementia and that is a basically a 24/7 job in itself, but I always check this site out at-least twice a day for a catch up and as my signature says, this site certainly helps keep me sane.

Wow man I am incredibly sorry to hear that, I understand what it's like to back burner a couple things, even things that were/are incredibly important to you. My old boss at Mercedes gave me a less than fair ultimatum when my nana was at Brigham n women's in Boston with luchemia.. I hope mine and others build logs help you through your rough time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom. Best regards and thanks for taking the time to reply!

In my Case, I am tired of the 'Net Bullying (not so much here, but there is one...) so, I simply choose to not participate-

Personally, I had a lot of fulfilling fun from 2003-09 or so, and my greatest joy was helping someone else-now, you try to help and run for cover, hoping that somehow the person you were trying to help actually got something out of your information, before you get chastised for your opinion-I know of many people who have just checked out because of it-this place does it the least I've seen, so you have picked one of the better sites-

I guess it's just human nature-

Idk if I should say that that is fortunate or unfortunate lol because this site has less bullying or that it is unfortunate that you are too nervous to post because people are so quick to criticize and be rude... I just try to respond to those comments with a positive attitude and just know that there are other people out the who will and do benefit from your posts, one thing I've learned is to def not be afraid to express your own opinion, and yes there will for sure be people who don't like it lol, thanks for the reposnse !

I've seen many a post from you helping others, and, it's a shame if you feel like not participating because your hot rod is just so BAD ASS!

There's much I can learn from you! One of my friends here feels much like you. I always tell him "we" can offer our opinions only, it is up to the original poster to decide how to handle that information. When others disagree with my opinion, I can only accept that opinions are like ...um ... bellybuttons, we all have one. And it's okay that we don't always see eye to eye, we aren't supposed to!

Sorry to the O.P. for the diversion.. back to the program!

Personally, in reference to the previously mentioned economic downturn, I am still spending money, but its not too exciting - just a new door latch mechanism and something else I couldn't live without. Damn if I can remember just now, but I'll be the first to know when the package arrives.

I have the steaming turd up for sale. When people ask why I'm selling, it's so I'll quit spending money on it!

I don't think there was a diversion here at all just because the reposnses are bringing recent activity and if part of the reason as to why not many people have recent build logs or as to why many tech threads are not recent don't have a lot of responses is because people feel intimidated to post their opinions then I would say we are defenitely on the same page. Everyone has a right to their opinion and if one is offering help on a particular subject then like you said, it is up to the poster to decide how to handle it. I like that, and I think this forum is excellent.

I'm hoping now the economy is on its way up, and people will be having extra money to be spending on the build of custom cars. Personally my mentor is getting older and I can't imagine he will be able to fund these projects for any longer than another 5 years.. It's really a sad thing, and I think that is a reason along with the economy is the older generation is retiring I hate to say, and the younger generation has either no interest or hopefully has just yet to catch on. I hope in the coming years the hot rod and custom scene explode once again.
