The new person

Well here I am to "check in." I am 16 years old and I live in North Carolina. I am into old cars a lot, especially Mercury's or 37 Chevy trucks. I also am into riding MX or FMX (dirtbikes) I do not have a car/truck yet but still need the money and time and still looking for one. It's hard to find one out here in NC that I wan't without 4 doors. Umm.... Yeah well I don't know EVERYTHING about hot rodding but am taking auto tech classes right now and going to community collede either this year or next after my welding classes for as much auto tech and auto body (collision repair) as possible. Well that's basically all I can think of at the moment so if there is anything else anyone would like to know then let me know and I will answer the best I can. Take it easy.

You should be able to find Chevelles pretty easily in South Carolina.

Yeah I guess.... I am about 15 minutes from the South Carolina border. I don't really wan't a Chevelle though because everyone has those and I would like something different. Don't get me wrong though, they are bitchin' car's. Also I got one question that I decided I might as well throw up in this thread.... Yeah, I guess ur right, there are many Chevelles. May I suggest an older British sports car, there pretty cool, you could probably drive a MGB home for about 1200 - 3500 for ones that are in good shape, I myself might be getting a 1973 Triumph Spitfire just to drive around in but my main project will probably be a 1967 GMC 3/4 4X4 truck , the only reason I'm suggesting British sports cars is, you don't see them everyday ( at least where I live ) and they get good gas mialage, and many come without radio's or heaters or vent systems of any kind cause, there made to be light, fo instance the Triumph Spitfire is 2750 LBS. There are other cars that are good, that are american, what about Corvaires? Chop Top '46 Ford, 1950's F100's. I too wanted to be diffrent so, I bought the '83 Benz ( no longer a project for this year ) and had hopes of putting a Chevy 350 in it but, found out there were more V8 powered 240D's than I thought and, I lost compleat and all interest in it, now I just want to outfit it with a Ford 302 and C4 and stick a 4 Sale sign on it when that's done next year.

WHAT KIND OF BIKE DO U HAVE?

Heck, I never knew what a Triumph was until 6'th grade and, I never knew what a Spitfire was until I was searching through a local listing and found the '73 I said and it was listed for 100 bucks, seemed an interesting price for a British car so, I went to Ebay and found pics of them, I thought they were the early Triumph Econobox car designed for really really good MPG but, It is a nice little 2 seat roadster with a real wood dash, no raido or vent system, just the convertible top. I told my mom about it and she said, I could have told you that, cause she test drove 2 of them and an MGB b4 she decided that her first car should be a 1969 Opel GT 1900, which she also test drove. the Spitfires were rated for over 35 MPG. Oh, that's another car you should look for an Opel GT, there American, where they were sold by buick. I have only seen 1 GT in real life so, there not very common, There powered by a 1900cc 4 Cyl, they look like a Mini Corvette, my mom said she went through Canada to Mischagan doing 120 MPH daily with hers.

Anyone know if this is any good? I don't care for the style but what about chop top and limo tint, take the front bumper off, maybe flat black or gloss black paint with metallic blue flames and some double wides with some nice looking rims.... don't know what kind yet I would be stuck between 2 or 3 of them..... Anyone got any pics of these fixed up?

I think that Williys has potential but, you would have to lower it a little, chop the top compleatly off but turn into hard top convertiebal and paint it Midnight blue with dark blue custom interior, you would also have to replace that old drivetrain with a 350 and a 4 spd.

Sounds like youhave a great plan for your future. Heck I am 54 years old and am taking a Community college body work class right now! Got some other older guys like me doing it as a hobby and some younger guys like you learning to make a living. Our instructor says he can place anyone who gets their certification, the body shops are crying for well trained people.

That old Jeep locks interesting, definitely not something you see everyday as a hot rod. Should have plenty of room and options to go custom, pro street or some combination of the two.

P.S. By the way the Opel GTs are actually German cars, made in Germany, sold in the USA by Buick. They are neat little cars, I've seen them with small blocks in them, but it is a lot of engineering work to do it well.

I actully did know that but, I thought it would be OK to consider them American because they were sold in Buick dealerships. They resemble late 60's early 70's Corvettes so well, it almost seems that they were modeled after them, Are they really? I once saw one on Ebay that had a 231 Buick V6 and sidepipes but, other than that everything was compleatly stock, even the raido. My mom actually had 2 Gt's She had the '69 that she paid 3200 for used in 1971 and, my dad bought her a '70 in the early 80's for a grand.

About the guy asking what kind of bike I have... if you mean dirt bike then I got a 02' YZ 125 and getting a 250 and a CRF 50. Also about the notify of reply thing... I clicked that box and everything to get notified and it still won't work... any other ideas? Ay Rick is that your truck in the Avatar? It is sweet as hell man I wan't something like that. Also do you got it in flat black? About the pics... Do you wan't to post them straight onto here like on a thread? That's cool information but, are there gas tanks replaceable? or are they stuck there "Forever". I think there really neat little cars, and there pretty rare around here, I only seen 1 in real life, that was in the town about 10-15 miles from my house, It's still at that house to.

Oh, and FMX, being ur talking about Dirt Bikes, I have a 1978 Suzuki DS 100 that I paid 30.00 for at a yard sale, it diddn't run but, it did after I changed the spark plug, the people who had it couldent figure out why it wouldn't run, now that it runs, it starts 1'st kick if it ran in the last approx 2 weeks or 3 kicks if it sat for a month, that's one good smooth running motor to. I also got 1 dirt bike motor question, my dad has a 1978 Suzuki DS 125 but, now when you hammer on it, it sometimes bogs way down and actully cuts out compleatly, it kinda sounds like it's loosing preassure or sorta flooding up but, it always starts right back up, got any ideas on what it could be? Also, when you start it cold it wont begin to want to start up until anywares from 6- 25 kicks and, it will idle cold but not hot.

Sounds like the jetting to me.... Ever clean the air filter out? You should clean the air filter after every ride and don't use gas because it eat's away the material that they use on filters.... Get a new spark plug... maybe a hotter one, don't go too hot or else it will mess your piston up. Sounds like jetting to be though, but take your plug ouy and if it is burning black really bad then on your main jet needle, move the clip UP one because moving it up will lean it out. Try that out and let me know if that works man. Oh yeah and for the jetting it is either clogged or if the weather changes like it get's cold and it does that in the winter then that's what it is and I don't know if you will need to make the main jet or the pilot bigger or smaller because I would have to ride it to know. Call a local shop and ask them about the best jetting and tell them the year of the bike etc. I hope that was a help to you, just let me know if that helped the problem. Oh yeah talking about dirt bikes, wan't a 89 Husqvarna 510 Dual Sport?

Thanks for the compliments on my 46. I have a ways to go on it but most of the fun is getting there. I have done a rear end upgrade and a new small block is on a stand waiting to go in. As soon as I have time I’m going to pull the front end and get started. Below is big pic of the 46.

Damn man that is such a sick ass ride! You better keep an eye on it because I know where Sac is at because I used to live near there and I will steal the thing. haha just messing but yeah dude email me some pics when you do more to it.... A 1 inch chop on the top would look good as well and tinted windows. Are you going to put slicks or double wides on the back or no? What are your plans for it? I wan't a 37 Chevy so bad. I saw one here at the Lowes Motorspeed way show and this guy had a 37 Chevy truck for sale for 28,000..... so damn nice, but yeah he said that they only made about 300 of them and there are only about 100 or around there left and he told me to look around at every car and said he would sell the truck to me for 18,000 or something around there if I found another 37 there and I didn't. (I thought I did one time and my heart dropped but when I got up to it in small words it said Ford :CRY: ) Ok I am getting mad because I don't have one I am going to stop talking about them. :CRY:

Thanks, I got sunday off, maby my dad and I can pull it out of storage ( The shed ) and try ajusting the main jet. When my dad bought the bike it ran great, started 2'nd or 3'rd kick and just ran great but, after about 3 weeks it started cutting out and loosing power, he thinks it's the reeds but, I don't think so. We have rebuilt & cleaned the carb 2 times but, still the same thing. We have also never checked the plug or cleaned the air cleaner, guess we better do that to.

I am looking in to getting a YZ 250F or a CRF250R. FMX are those any good? i want a bike that is fast and good for jumps but i also want one to go trail riding so thats why i want the 4 stroke if i just wanted to do motocross i would get a CR KX YZ OR RM 125

Check the reeds too man, your dad is right because reeds will do that as well... I forgot to add that. But anyways those YZ250F's are nice they are faster than a regular YZ 125 and better for racing, but if you wan't to do FMX and hit big jumps then I wouldn't prefer one. Some people do FMX with 4 strokes but I am more of a 2 stroke person because those YZ250f's need lot's of care, it's not like some other XR or other 4 strokes where the engine won't blow for a year or more, these will blow engines almost as fast as 2 strokes I hear if you ride them hard. I always just stick to 2 strokes, but that doesn't matter because it's what YOU wan't not me so your best bet is to go around and find people selling them and ask them to test ride one and ride the 250 F"s and the 125 two strokes so that way you have a feel for all of the bikes. I you go with a 125 then I prefer a YZ, they have more power than the CR's do because the engines on the CR's are gutless and have no power at all but are more comfortable than a YZ and the suspension is a bit better. Just remember though, it's 10% bike and 90% rider. If you got any other questions then just ask and I will answer, hope that helped some.

Oh yeah if you are wanting a real good race bike then don't forget about KTM, they have the best power and everything on them and come with Excel rims and everything besides the bars on then stock are real good and they haul ass. The only thing about a KTM is the way they sit, they are set up for racing so they make you lean forward more and feels like you will get thrown over the bars so it takes a lot of getting used to and the suspension isn't the best but still really good but if you send it off to like Independent Race Shop or Pro Action then they can set it up to your weight, size, etc. Anther good race bike is a YZ too. But like I said before, it's going to be what you like so what I just put is my own two cents. :D

thanks i am not going to consider a 2 stroke because i want to go on trails and stuff to. is the CRF 250 any good?

The CR250F is a sick bike, I think they are the same as the YZ250F's or a bit better but either one is a great bike. Don't get a CRF230 or none of those though because the suspension is the worste and not good for jumping at all and if you hit a tree or anything they will bend, but you can always bend them back too. CR250F is a good bike man, get one of those if that's what you plan on doing is trails and all.
