Hello everyone, Been looking for a good hot rod forum cause i always need some help with the catalina. seems like i picked to right forum. is there and threads on here on how to tune a holley carb in ? just put a new 670 vac sec on the catalina the car has a 455 in it and i'm having the hardest time getting this thing where it needs to be. thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum, nice to see a Poncho guy on board. I had a 63 Bonneville, and always liked the 63'-64's a lot. Too bad they've gotten so pricey or I'd have another one. As for the Holley question, not sure about any specific thread, maybe do a search, but we have some very knowledgeable motor guys on here who I bet can help you out. (Once they wake up for the day :D)

Welcome pontiac guy! The first things they will want to know is whats been done to the engine if not stock and whats it acting like now?

We need more pontiac guys on here. Why run a holley on that 455? It begs for a 750 or 800 QJet and when it is built and tuned right it will get better milage than the holley. Get a copy of Cliff Ruggles book " How to build and modify Quadra jet Carbs".

thanks for the info. here is a little info the engine is a 1976 455 block and the transmission is a TH-400....both were rebuilt....I've got paper work for the cam and stuff like that.......they have less than 5000 miles on the build....engine has a single plane manifold that's been HPC coated, has Holley 670 street demon carb, Mallory unilite conversion distributor, Mallory promaster coil (under the dash) Taylor spark plug wires...It has a 140 amp single wire Alternator...a dual battery set up here is a pic of her love the car just wish i could get he running the right she's ready to get out of the garage.Quote:

Hello and welcome, Pontiac Guy. I'm glad to see a local guy here. I'm a little north of you in Keller but I have a Roanoke mailing address. There's a long, boring explanation for that situation that I won't go into.
We all have had cars that we wish we had never sold. One of mine was a big '51 Chieftain Club Coupe. with a flathead straight eight. Stock as a stove. It was a dark sort of metallic gray with a sun shield (or visor or whatever you want to call it) and the required chrome stripes down the center of the hood and trunk and that lighted up Indian head hood ornament. I thought it was the classiest ride in the world.
A girlfriend at the time told me she that it was gauche, whatever that means. I don't think it was a compliment.
I also had a big 1929 Pontiac coupe. It had an interesting engine; An inline six with two heads on it with the distributor sticking straight up between the heads. I had to give it away when I got a big patriotic urge to go into the navy (that means I was about to be drafted).
Well, I didn't intend to get windy in a "Welcome Aboard" note but you gotta bear with us Geezers when we do things like that, but before I shut up I want to say that that is a beautiful '64.

I'll echo the Q-jet recommendation, but there's a bunch of Holley pros on the site that will be able to help you out. Tell's us a bit about the symptoms you're having..

Thanks guys. this is my first older car that i have owned and i love it grabs attention like you wouldn't believe but she has also been a headace with the carb issues. i switched from a edelbrock 600 to the holley 670 and ever since it idels rough kinda high till she warms up if you go to rev the motor it cut's out and will die. I have the site bowls adjusted did the turn in a half on the vaccum screws can't figure out the problem is she is also running rich. the carb was new out of the box so i wonder if i got a bad carb ? do you all think the 670 is enough carb for the 455 ?Quote:
