Welcome to the forum. That's the stock location for a 32 tank, probably no more vulnerable than lots of other hot rods, including my old 23. None of these is as safe as brand new cars with crumple zones, air bags, etc., but they are what they are.
Nice looking little 32 BTW.

Hoss429-
What Itoldyouso said is correct. Thats the stock location on a '32.
When you look at them, None of the 20's-30's cars are all that safe in any kind of crash. I'd hate to have a roll over or side hit in any of them.
I guess we take our chances. But, just the nature of these cars we probably drive a little safer and causious. With the occasional blast of speed!
As far as the Empire state? I have no idea. we do have Empire apples!

Whip-
I think the sence of humor thing is a good thing for most forums to have.
You just can't always get across in type exactly what you mean every time, and sometimes that can lead to issues. I'm on another machinist site and it always seems like one of the postings gets sideways over something, and its not even by the guy who started the post!
Anyway, My background is mechanical engineering. I have a full machine shop at my house with a CNC mill, Lathe, Tig, Mig and the support tools.
This is my second rod that I built. The first was a model A. Had that for about 22 years but I really wanted a duce. So, here I am.

That explanation sounds as good as any!
Since I got that plate, the state changed to a god-aufful yellow and black
plate. Looks like the same yellow they paint the state trucks with.
Must have gotten a deal on paint!
I think I have to pay extra to keep that plate. Did you also notice it ends in 32?
The woman at the DMV actually dug through the plates untill she found one with 32 in it!
How's that for service?

Wish I had the knowledge to work on a mill. Old school guy like myself started with flatheads in the 50's and have worked on a bunch of them and have rebuilt one. Never learned like you have but always trying to teach myself new tricks. Built my 37 using a Pacer front end which gave me a rack and pion and disc breaks fro the front. Have a 9" ford(can't rember where I pulled it from) but the gears are to high(2:76). Want to change from my 350 tranny to a muncie 4 speed but don't know if I have the room. Might have to move the firewall farther forward and maybe the 86 bench seat back. Only 5'10," but still driving with my knees almost touching the steering wheel.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
