New, preface and questions.

New to the forum and generally new to cars. I currently own a 1953 Ford Customline with a flathead. I currently don’t have possession of my license due to age requirements, although I should be obtaining it within 30 days; as I’ll be the age of 16. I’ve recently had aspirations of purchasing a 1967 Mustang Fastback with hopes of cleaning up the old body and frame and adding a few things, things ill attempt to list below although my terms and overall demeanor may be a bit off, I ask you give me a break because I quite frankly don’t know a lot about cars.

I was hoping to put in a possible 428 Interceptor, although as I’ve been reading I may be better off to put in a 350 or another small block engine and lose considerable amounts of weight without losing the 428’s horsepower dramatically. I wanted to put in a quick change rear end in hopes to be able to pull 11’s in quarter miles but also not demolish my engine and car when trying to open highway it for considerable distances.

I wanted to ask also if anyone has had experiences with X pipe headers and if it was possible to manipulate the headers coming directly out of the engine so that I could pull the headers away from the X pipe with possibly a flip of a switch so that when I was trying to do quarter miles or street race it would not only sound good but blow the exhaust without pressuring the X pipe and destroying the exhaust. If anything I said didn’t make since its probably because of my lack of knowledge not yours so any advice would be great.

The only thing u said that did not make since is the 350, That is a Chevy motor, Ford has the 351. The quick change is not a bad idea but, a ford 9" would be more than sufficiant. and for the exaust ur probably thinking of exzaust cut outs, these are good food for, drag cars that are street legal or cars that meet the strip every once in a while.

Exzaust cut outs? Perhaps this is what I'm looking for or maybe at least something that would suite my needs. I appreciate the advice. Just out of curiously if you had a 1967 Mustang Fastback with a perfect conditioned body and frame, with a generous but not millionaire like portion of money to deploy on an engine and the other; what I would call “running necessities” what would you suggest as a good all around setup (including engine, exhaust, transmission etc..). I’d love to hear any suggestions offered on the subject, as I have found one Mustang that was a replica clone of from the hit film “Gone in 60 seconds” and I thought it was quite good looking although the hefty price tag of 125,000 made my turn the other cheek. So for like a said, a reasonable price tag, what kind of setup would you suggest or anyone suggest?

Ok, What I would do with a 67' Mustang is, Loose the 302 and get 351 if u can find one cheap, if not just get Performer Rpm Intake manifold, 600 cfm edle Preformer carb and a smooth idle cam. You can find all these products in Summit Racing Equipment or Jegs High Performance. www.summitracing.com and www.jegs.com Keep stock trans and rear end. Get some wide rear tires or D.O.T approved drag tires. If it's manual get a Hurst 4 speed shifter or if it's automatic leave it stock. I would say the same about the manual but they have a good feel to the shift and, there worth it. Black interior and a Grabber Blue exterior color.

How does the 351 compare to a 428 Interceptor? Do you happen to know the weight variations and/or horsepower differences? For example would the 428 (which I’m presuming is heavier being a big block engine [correct?]) over power the horsepower to weight ratio the 351 offers? If you don’t happen to know these things, who would or possibly some resources?

Can you offer some insight/information on positrack? What are the pro and cons and/or purpose behind them. If I ever save up the money to buy a 67’ I know for a fact I don’t want to be held down by keeping stuff “stock” since I want it to be a hot rod not a classic sit in your garage car. Can you offer some insight on NOS (nitrous oxide system?) and what its purpose and pro/cons are?

Also, has anyone seen the hydrogen(if I recall correctly) powered car that weighs 400 pounds and has around 5000 horses, it supposedly does 0-100 in approximately 1 second and can reach speeds of up to 300 miles an hour. Anyone thought about adapting this type of engineering into there street rod?

Here it goes, 351 is smaller lighter and easier to work on than the 428. The 428 produces more Hp stock than 351 but, 351 has cheaper performance parts in most cases cause it's more popular.

Positraction is exzactly what it says, it provides positive traction to both rear tires without any slip. Have ya ever seen someone light the tires on somtin like a ford ranger and only one tire lights, this is an example of a car without posi. When a car with Positive traction lights it's tires, both tires light up.

For u NOS is the Go Baby Go button that was pushed in The Shelby Mustang in " Gone In 60 Seconds ". It makes the car produce more hp and gain rpm's in return. Pros are the gained speed from the happy button but the cons are, NOS kits are expenisive and the bottles are shipped empty and the bottles run out of juice fairly quick.
