What a great site!
I've been lurking here off and on for a couple of years, decided to register this morning.
Some of my background. I have always loved Rods. When my son was younger we used to go to the local shows. Attend Detroits Autorama almost every year. I fell in love with a white '40 Chevy "gasser" that I would see up there every year. In 1998 I bought a '40 Chevy Master Deluxe BC from a guy in Montana. Solid car, all glass intact, gutted interior, covered in light surface rust but no holes. I put the car in the barn and began a slow process of saving money and buying parts for my project, which was to make a daily driver Rod out of it. I worked on a job with a guy who had a '59 Bel-air with a 283 in it from a '67 Impala. I kept bugging him to sell me the motor since the car was just sitting behind his shed. Instead he sold me the whole car for $400. I put it in my other out building. Christmas night 2005 my barn burned and took the '40 with itLuckily I still have the '59, sadly it is a four door. My plan is to make it my daily driver when the weather wont let me ride my bikes. I joined this site looking for advice as to the best way to up-grade the brakes, suspension etc. I think it will be an interesting journey.
That’s something I didn’t wanna read. I was lucky enough to meet him and his wife when they traveled Route 66, don’t remember the year. I just remembered meeting him at Ted Drew’s custard stand along...
