new guy
Hey guys, from what I have seen so far amazing site and info here. I'm an Electronics tech for the us navy, worked as a licenced machanic before I joined. Worked up several SBC's in my short time here, but never realy came across a big block in that time, looking to up the game on my current project, a 67' cuttlass 442. Not done much work on big blocks, How are the gen VI blocks? I'v seen a lot of negitivity about mark 5's and that the gen 6 is better but other then that not a lot. I picked up a gen 6 block for 400 and don't realy know where to go next as far as internals and heads go, some suggestions would be greatly appreciated... planning on a twin screw sc on top...

Welcome !! to a great site.
I'm afraid I can't answer any of your questions. I am a MoPar guy, know nothing about Chebys/GM's. I used to know a lot about Norfolk, I lived there in the early to mid 60s.
What part of Norfolk you in? I was in Norview, spent lotta time at Lido Inn, still go there every trip to Norfolk.

Welcome Brisk. glad to see someone local. Depending on your budget for the build Summitt racing or jegs has alot of parts for the chevy big blocks. I am also a huge fan of the 350. My son and I and starting our first total engine rebuild.

Welcome to CHR! I am sure that you will get the answers you need here, but not from me. I currently only play with GM engines from the 50's and 60's and a few Mopars.

thanks for the welcome guys, i'm currently in the N.O.B. area of Norfolk... Living out in the Suffolk/ Isle of white/ Smithfeild area.
mopar34: the current goal (even though im using a gen VI block) is to keep 196x techknowlagy poweing the bbc, machanincal toilet bowl, I mean carb., either a twin screw s/c or roots style s/c.
im on a slight budget now, but a lot of underway time is schedualed, so when we get back is when im going to accualy start the build, but you can never overprepair or research for something as expencive/time consuming as a complete build... i mean COMPLETE, the bore is still rough cast and needs punched, and with all the years of experence here im hoping to find someone to suggest an 'optimal' bore and stroke to start my short block in the right direction, getting to the ultimate goal of a power plant that was built right one time, the first time, and gives me a good compromise of streetability and some minimal amiture 1/4 runs in Richmond:D
