It's a Buick, dude

Hi guys, just checkin in and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Al Fiandaca and I'm a long time Buick lover who has been bitten by the rodding bug.
I presently have an Apollo White 1970 Buick GSX with a 455 and 4-speed and two 1986 Grand Nationals, but a good friend of mine with a bunch of street rods, introduced me to the thrill of street rodding.
I've got the itch to build a 32 Highboy (Buick powered of course...:p ), and I'll be asking for some recomendations on rolling chassis/fiberglass body kits.

Welcome aboard, one of my old racin buds had a 70 Stage 1, they run hard! If you want to build a rod, don't rule out an old Buick. Some of them have great lines!

Welcome to CHR, Al. Got thoroughly whooped by a Buick GS out on the bypass one night, it was a 67. I gave the guy his money and he didn't want to say much about the motor. He didn't have to say anything, car did all the talking for him. Good luck on your new project, would be kewl to hot rod and old Buick. Not many of them around so it would garner some points for unique.

"Josephine" is like part of our family and a true pleasure to cruise around in with the family.

Anyone run across a good deal on a rebuilt or low mile 401 or 425 nailhead engine I'd be interested .

Nice to see you man. My mother has had a 70 buick lesabre in her garage since 87. You would know this one, does the wildcat or the GSX run the same lines as the lesabre? its a convertable if it helps. Oh, and a bit of advice, since your not running a chebby engine, streets WILL rag on you at some time. Have fun here, and feel free to ask anything. Someone will know the answer.

That's one fine looking older Buick. I love to see anyone building a car with any motor other than Belly Buttons. (SBC OR BBC) Get that baby run;ning and then show us more pictures.

Yeah, that '39 Buick turned out great! I hope my Chevy looks half that good when it's done! I wanted a Buick, too. I had the motor and tranny first (sold my last GN as a rolling chassis) and wanted to keep it all Buick. Alas, the Chevy came along and was just too good of a deal to pass up!

I like SBC/BBC motors too. But I agree that once you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. Besides, as I'm sure 70GSX (who started this thread) will attest, it's a lot of fun outrunning big V8's with my little ol' turbo'd and intercooled V6!

Hmmm, seems to me streets my old, old, increadibly oldness one that in YOUR post on Nickel blocks, Oldsmobile engine blocks came default High-Nickel. How many SBC blocks are high nickel again? less than 5%? And Exactly how many slot machines are high nickel anyway? :LOL: Maybe thats where Chevy motors come from!

Got another "Brew-wick" and thought I'd add it on here.

Real rare one, a 1964 401 Factory 4 speed Wildcat.

Needs total restoration but I am slowly (VERY slowly getting there).

Could use some 401 dress up parts, or a dual quad manifold should anyone have one.

Kind of a reversed four speed (angle of shifter).

I haven't researched the car much as my wife got cancer shortly after buying the car but it is really different from most Buicks that I have had over the years.

Usually a Buick is loaded with options but not this one.

Either the original buyer was a skin flint or maybe it was a stripped out car for posting performance numbers that year (ok, I'm dreaming "a little" on this last one).

Manual brakes,manual steering,manual tranny,no radio,one big single exhaust (thought all Wildcats had duals:confused: ), no tach,no air, just a plain Jane lookin Buick with a 401 (never confirmed, guess it could be a 425, need to check,if I ever have time these days:( ) and a Factory Hurst shifted 4 speed.

Betcha they didn't make over 25 (maybe less) when you crunch the numbers option (or "optionless" wise).Almost sold it a couple months ago but guess I'll keep holding on to it one day for my sons or daughter:HMMM: .............(nah, for Daddy!).

Ok, it's 3 AM time to see if I can go back to sleep.

Looks like the car is in great shape, never have seen an Electra with a 4 speed !!! Sure would like to find a bell housing and 4 speed for my '63 Riv.... There was a dual 4 set up 4 the nailhead on eBay a week or so ago, have seen them on there from time to time.

Looks like a great project. Are you sure it is all original? I would almost bet that the Hurst shifter is something that somebody added on. Not sure if they were offered from the factroy that far back.

Oh, by the way it is a Wildcat not an Electra (I do have an Electra also a 1960 but no 4 speed).

Yes, it is a stock shifter , I wondered about that too but have confirmed it is original.Pretty wild isn't it?

I've been looking at the rat rods here and that sealed primer look and a new bright red interior is sounding kind of tempting
