36 Chevrolet Low Cab build suggestions?
Wow. I never expected to get such a great response back everyone! Thanks for the welcome. Now I have to figure out what to start a thread as? In the Hot rod section I guess under "36 Chevy Low Cab build" or should I sectionalize it as "Tire fitment"? I'll try to start a thread tonight or tomorrow. Still trying to figure out where to start.
First and foremost, the style. I really grew up watching the Pro Street cylce and love the way they look but reality dictates to me that I will go more toward a daily driver as that is my goal. This truck will replace my stab at a rice burner race car. 2004 RX8. The car is great and really fast but for me its hard to replace the style of the older cars, and of coarse, that wonderfull sound of a lopey cam at near idle. So, this truck will be a mild hot rod, with most likely a LS1 with LS6 induction, looking to achieve 400hp or so with a modern tranney (4L60E), the typical boxed frame with tubular X-member, and don't forget the Flowmasters (love that sound), ending with most likely a 9" with discs at the rear. I decided to retain the fenders (cant stand the thought of slinging mud during the rain) and the hood with side skirts. I will be removing the crank out windshield due to fear of water leaks (opinions?). I have found that the little fendered vehicles of the late 20's and 30's have limited tire clearance if you want it close to the ground (tire size opions?). I have seen staggered 14" front and 15" rears done on cars but can't find any pictures of the trucks. I also somewhat like the new big wheel low profile look but not to the extreme that I have seen. I'm thinking that I would like about 4.5" of tire above both the front and back rims. It would seem to be a nice medium between the low profile look and the tall profile look. What do you think? I'm thinking 15X8's with 205/55/r15's on the front and 17X9.5's with 255/45/r17's on the rear. I will be getting the 2" wider rear fiberglass fenders (I'm told I should go with the fiberglass fenders as the ductile strength of the factory fenders will give me trouble with cracks from flopping). I found a place that sells them much cheaper than most of the other places but I know little about them. Be-Bops-glassworks. Anyone know anything about them? I have finally chosen a front end I believe I can trust from Street Rod Engineering. The Ultra-ride is more expensive, but these people have been very helpfull in answering my questions and I guess I just feel comfortable with them.
