    new guy from Iowa

    New to this site.

I am resto-mod'ing a 1964 Mercury Monterey fastback (Marauder). Found this car in central Florida in Sept 2006, and it's extremely solid. A little rust in the rockers but the floors, frame and body are very solid and straight. 97K miles. Engine has never been opened up, all the numbers match. Shipped it home and have been cruising, tinkering, and learning/researching. I love this car.

So far, I've rebuilt the steering (all manual!) and front suspension: upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower (inner) A-frame bushings, inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm bushings, etc. It drives a LOT better now!

Next project is a front disc brake conversion and 2" drop. I've been researching the kits and I think I'm going with the kit from "Drop 'n Stop".

Over the winter I'm going to rebuild the motor. Currently researching FE street rod parts.

Welcome to the forum. Those Mercs are really good looking cars. What is in yours, a 390? Post us up some pictures, we would love to see them.

I was glad to see Mercury bring out the Marauders again when they did. The new ones carry the theme of the old ones pretty well, and are really quick. There is a Marauder club down here, and one day I was driving up 75 and about 10 of them blew by me in the fast lane. All of a sudden traffic was stopped dead, and I saw tire smoke coming off of the line of Mercs. All of them got stopped but one, and he tailended one of his buddies.

Would love to see some pix of yours.

    Don

Welcome to CHR, Wfritchen! Sounds like a really nice project that you are working on. Shows us the pics! We love pictures!

Considering the size of Iowa, not surprised if there are only 3 to 5 members from there.

That's cold. IMHO, Iowa is a pretty state but a tad bit too cold for me in the winter.

You should've been here the last two weeks. It was soooo cold we had to run our furnaces every night when it got under 96 degrees.
