    new guy from Iowa

    New to this site.

I am resto-mod'ing a 1964 Mercury Monterey fastback (Marauder). Found this car in central Florida in Sept 2006, and it's extremely solid. A little rust in the rockers but the floors, frame and body are very solid and straight. 97K miles. Engine has never been opened up, all the numbers match. Shipped it home and have been cruising, tinkering, and learning/researching. I love this car.

So far, I've rebuilt the steering (all manual!) and front suspension: upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower (inner) A-frame bushings, inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm bushings, etc. It drives a LOT better now!

Next project is a front disc brake conversion and 2" drop. I've been researching the kits and I think I'm going with the kit from "Drop 'n Stop".

Over the winter I'm going to rebuild the motor. Currently researching FE street rod parts.
