old gearhead still trying
Hi All,
The weather is getting cold here so I guess I'll have a lot of down time to start hitting the car forums. Found this site a couple weeks ago and just got around to registering.
I been working on cars since age 14 when I talked my Dad into letting me buy a 50 Merc coupe for $10. Learned to drive in the field that year after I finally got it to run. Found out the flathead engine had a cracked block so I got a 56 Merc 312 'Y' block and swapped that in under the apple tree. Well I was hooked on hot rodding from then on.
Had a 15 year lull in the 80's while I meditated on the aspects of love and life. Finally came to my senses when she hit the road.
Now I got a wife who really appreciates the old cars and I got her a project 56 Chevy Bel Air. She helped out a lot to get it road ready. First time out to the local Camaro Show she got a peoples choice award for it still in primer. That really helped her to understand my passion for old cars.
Here's the rust bucket 40 p.u. I been trying to finish for the last 10 years. I dragged it out of the woods and the doors and cowl were falling off by the time I got it to the garage. Frame was rusted thru so it got a S10 frame with a 350, a later Ford bed, Glass rear fenders and running boards. Hope to be driving it next summer.
