Rolls in nice and slow...

Hey everyone! I'm new here. I hope I don't upset any of you "muscle car fanatics" because I drive a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3. I love older muscle cars, but have to admit I'm a huge fan of the growing sport compact car scene. I'm a fan of all types of cars...I've been car crazy since before birth. I've owned and customized several rides since I started to drive.

A little about me...I'm 34, married, no kids, one dog, and I love customizing cars. I'm a Graphic Designer for a major Wet/Dry Vac manufacturer and I do alot of freelancing on the side creating custom paint designs for cars, logos, T-shirt artwork and other auto related design stuff.

I just completed a quickie 14 week auto paint class last year and as my first project, I designed and painted my ZX3.

Anyway...here is my current car with my very first paintjob...

It's got some flaws in it, but all-in-all I'm ecstatic with it. It's all DuPont paint with blue metalflake in the black stripe.

Let me know what you think. Anyway...I look forward to meeting all of you and learning more about cars from this site.

Nice ZX...

It's good to see a compact WITHOUT a gaudy Pep Boys wing on the trunk.

Nice stance, cool wheels, and the graphic ACCENTS the body instead of clashing with it (as most poorly-thought-out graphics do). I like the metalflake in the black stripe.

Is that flake in the base or the clear???

Now, take that Focus, without the paint scheme, stuff in a 5.4 modular V8, and you'll have what Ford has on display here in Vegas at the SEMA show. Actually they have two, one with an Eaton charger, and one naturally aspirated. Petty sneaky (or is that snakey?)!

I'm impressed, as I have been an auto paint tech for 27 years.
Good to see you using your talent on a variety of things.

Have you gotten around to playing with Tri-stages ( factory colors) , Kandys, pearls,and other types of paints , you can get some pretty cool effects .

It's in the first coat of clear..then I cleared (without flake) over the whole thing.

I haven't played with kandys and pearls yet. In the class I took, we mostly sprayed metallics. Our teacher told us if we could spray a metallic with no tiger striping, we could spray almost anything.

I've heard kandys can be tricky...I hope I can try them sometime soon.

My wife's mustang is next...hopin' to do some pearl flames on it!

I was looking at your art work on another thread , you do nice work.
I sometimes wish I wouldnt of passed up my art scholership to Denver university in 1978, but I always wanted to paint cars from the time I was 7years old.

Spray, you're close, but the Kugel is based around the 5.0 liter pushrod motors. The ones at SEMA are the dual overhead cam modulars. That's what blew me away. And they actually fit between the towers!! It wouldn't surprise me if Ford had Kugel, or someone else, do the actual work, but no credit was given that I could see.

Hey Bob, did you get any pics of the dual overhead set-up?? Sounds like it would be really fun for a Ford Guy like me to drool over !! Neat paint on the ZX3, Ynot, and welcome to CHR. All we gotta do now is get you to apply some of that talent to a hot rod.

I have a degree in Graphic Design and am currently a Creative Director working for one of the country's largest Promotion Agencies... I also have 3 semisters of autobody under my belt... I took night school after I graduated college... I have a couple of side businesses, one doing freelance and another doing custom graphics mostly on motor bikes...

Went back to SEMA today and found a guy working the Ford booth. Turns out the supercharged car is built by a company called ATI Motorsports. www.atimotorsports.com
I misspoke above however, the engines are the 4.6's, not 5.4's. The 5.4's are taller and wider so won't fit without hood modifications.

The iron cross is very popular these days. I change up my logo quite often...always want a new look.

That would make a great shirt... I used the Iron Cross and Gothic type face so that the Dangerous Designs logo would have a Biker feel since that is the main target for the type of work we have been doing... Here is the logo for my Freelance art business...

I guess I am too lazy and have never gotten around to building a site for my work... My partner and I are working on a portfolio together for our airbrush graphics business then we will transfer over everything to digital images and start to layout a web site... Until then all I have are a few pics we have rounded up so far... Here is an example of a guitar that my partner just finished up... I wish I had more examples to show, but I will get my act together eventually...

HELLO EVERYONE, I AM ANOTHER NEWBIE, TAKING ON A 1951 CHEVY FLEETLINE 4 DOOR. I HAVE BEEN "JUMPED IN " TO THE DOUGLAS STREET RODS AND CLASSIC CAR CLUB. MY 10 YR OLD SON AND ME ARE REALLY EXCITED TO GET THIS PROJECT ON THE ROAD. SO I WILL BE PICKING BRAINS AND LOOKING FOR GREAT IDEAS TO HELP US WITH CUSTOMIZING OUR CAR. :D

I have a '51 Fleetline 4dr also, what's your's have for an engine/ trans. Mine has the original 235 with powerglide auto, it's pretty rare to find 1 with a PG in a Fleetline 4dr, and even Fleetline 2dr. Mines also a Deluxe model.
