happened upon this site...cool. A lot of good info. I have a 65 Ranchero that I"m getting bored with. I'm contemplating a straight axle install. Losing those shock towers would be great. I need to check out some details, I see this may be the place. Great to be here.

If you don't mind, go ahead and drop your fenders, QP's, bumpers and roof off at my house, I would appreciate it a lot.

Just joking with ya :) Welcome to the site, I can garuntee you will find much of the needed information. My dad and I are turning this 64' Falcon into a Pro Streeter, which is why I joked about the items.

The body of your '65 looks very straight! I had a '64 Ranchero with a rebuilt 289 but the body was really beat; it was under a treefall plus I added some dings using it for moving and landscaping, so when it came time to fix it up it was farther gone than I could afford to fix, but even with just a 289 it was a joy to drive. Sure it shook and rattled but that made it more "Ford". It was a tin can with an engine; wish I had kept it until I could afford the body work. You know there is enough roof there for a glass sun/moon roof insert, I bought a small glass insert from Pep Boys but the roof was too dented in from the tree to fit the insert. Then I thought of cutting out the roof and just adding a snap-on mini top, but I am always looking for an open car. Just reminiscing. Rather than cut out the shock towers why not just supercharge the engine you have?

Thanks, everyone. I'll give you a little history. I picked the ranchero up in 86. I drove it a year, took it off the road, ripped it apart and it went back on the road in 01. Between raising a family and working long hours it took forever. The picture makes it look better than it really is. When I took it apart it had a 72 block and a 72 and a 78 head. The trans was supported by a piece of plate. The shifter hole was cut with a torch and a New Hampshire license plate covered the hole, I think you get the idea. I reused the block, crank and rods, replaced everything else. it has a cast iron t-10 which could use a rebuild. Pretty much everything was rebuilt or replaced. I painted it myself and when you get close you can tell. The 302 is 030 over, forged pistons, studded crank with windage tray, 270 comp cam, double roller timing chain. 351w haeds, ported, 190/160 vlvs, studs roller rockers ect.... it only weighs 2375 so it moves along.
It's been fun but time to make some changes. btw,I do have an extra fender, hood and both steel bumbers if someone could use them.
