Go to as many events as you can that feature '30's cars and learn, learn, learn. Identify which ones float your boat the most, talk to the owners about why they made the choice they did, and beg for the opportunity to at least sit in, and drive/ride if possible, to see which ones best fit your desires. That era was very dynamic from both a design and mechanical sense. For example, generally early '30's cars were small and crude compared to late '30's cars. From a hot rod point of view that may not mean much, other than the early cars need more modification to become more like later cars.
It would be hard for anyone to "tell" you which way to go. You have to learn it for yourself. Invest the effort and you'll get a return.
