Just found these forums...

Just found the Club Hotrod forums about 10 minutes ago. I've been looking for a forum of this nature for quite sometime and glad I finally found one.

As for me, I'm a 20-year old college student at SPSU in Marietta, GA. I've always had an interest in hotrods and trucks. My pops and I are going to start building a hotrod in the early months of next year so I'm here to get ideas while sharing ideas of my own.

My dream car is a '57 Chevy Nomad, but I realize those are very hard to come-by since Chevrolet didn't make many of them in that year. Other than a Nomad, I'd love to have a Nova, Chevelle, or Chevy/GMC truck.

If the '57 Nomad is what you want, then that's what you should get. Don't compromise because of a false belief. There are, relatively speaking, lots of '57 Nomads out there for sale at any given time. Because of their popularity, they are a bit pricey, but all that means is you just need to save your nickles a little longer. I'd be surprised if I couldn't find 10 of them for sale on line in half an hour. My best advice to you would be to buy the absolute best one you can find, especially when it comes to rust damage and trim, both interior and exterior, that is unique to the Nomad. Rust damage is extremely time consuming to repair, very difficult for the beginner, and costly to have a pro do it. However, it can be repaired incorrectly for less. Likewise, the trim pieces can be very expensive, again because of supply and demand.

Update: Just for kicks, and probably to prove my point, I did a quick (about 4 minutes) check on three sites and found 13 for sale.

and those are only three of the hundreds of sites on line that list cars for sale. You're young. Don't let negativity impede your dreams. Leave that to your college profs to suffer.

Rust damage really won't be a problem because my dad has been building cars since he was a teenager and I helped him build one when I was 13-years old. So no matter what the damage, I will happily spend hour after hour between school and studying to fix them.

I pretty much base my life around computers, automobiles, and motorcycyles. So when it comes to those 3 things, you can slow me down, but there is no stopping me.

Cod, Welcome aboard. It's always nice to see the yonger guys getting into the older cars. It's young guys like you that will keep the hobby going.

My best friend just bought a 1950 GMC Truck. We have already started taking it apart, I'll get pics next time I'm over at his house helping him out.

I never really stated, but I really want a Nomad because I'm an intense car audio enthusiast as well as hot rod enthusiast. A Nomad will provide me with loads of room to work with the audio side of things (already have ideas in my head). I want to make it look like a system would in the 50's (if they had our technology then). Guess its hard to explain, y'all just have to wait and see if you don't understand what I'm trying to say :D.

Welcome aboard Cod. The accoustics can be overcome with lots of amps and a heavy duty volume control. What you need for a 57 style sound system is an old Wurlitzer juke box in the back with modern electronics installed.
I can hear the audio freaks from half a mile or more when they drive by my house even when I'm inside and they have their windows rolled up. Don't they care about going deaf? I guess it's like cigarettes. I'll only smoke till I get cancer then I'll quit.

Streets, when it may take me months to figure out, but I'll have that think slammin' when I get one. Just like any other project involving a hot rod, it can be conquered with constant dedication and the will to succeed.

Al, that is kind-of what I had in mind. Put a stock '57 deck back in the dash and install the Pioneer 90GB player somewhere hidden. I can figure it all out when I get the car :)
