that don't make since "65 c10 350 soon 283 tbi 700r4 ps pb"
you got a 350 in a nice project, but you want a 283 and put a TBI system that would be designed for a 350?? I don't get it. run a carb or put the TBI on the 350, yes the TBI manifold will work on the 283 but it don't make sinse to use it, you probably want gas mialage with the truck, but you ain't gonna get it with a '65 2.5 ton ( approx ) Brick wall, the smaller engine might even make it worse as it runs harder to move the truck than the 350 would, a TBI 350 might be decent for the vehicle but by decent I mean 10-14 MPG, round that with the 283 with your mismatch setup. your power steering ain't gonna help the situation as it takes power to run it. your 15, you are going to want somthing simple, get a 4bbl manifold and carb of your choice and hook it up to 1 of the motors, you would have no computer to worry about tuning and programming.
Well whatever you have or want it lookes like you have a nice clean motor. Welcome to CHR by the way. We need some more young guys in here. Good that your starting out at 15 years old. No rice huh? What made you go the old geezer hot rod route? :p
Howdy,Yourself chevy 283 If ol'boy sounded cranky w/you I don't
think it was meant thataway. He is correct, more cubic inches or
displacement would be better in your '65 1/2 ton (you said C-10).
On the other hand that motor looks like you care.Maybe it was
Granddad's, or just looks to me like country kid doin' somethin'
besides sightin' his deer rifle on a stop sign. You'll get that motor
"scienced out", and you may decide to go big in the pickup. Then
it'll be perfect in a Vega,Monza,or an old Chevy Luv pickup. A lot
of folks I know have had a fast "beater" they called the "weed-
hopper" or some such to go jump terraces in a cow pasture, and
run from the sheriff after the football game.Like the man said"15
and no rice". Welcome from other newguy.
ok the reason for the 283 had it rebuilt and the 350 is not rebuilt and it ran bad reason for tbi everybody thinks am crazy for putting it on. a older man gave it to me the truck. 283 is orignal for all we no. and computers do not scare me. I aready had the 350 running with tbi and reason for no rice is there stupied looking no style.
sorry if someone has a ricer. i'll have to say they do get better mpg.
Basicly the only reason I said the TBI and the 283 won't work so good is because of the availability of programs, injectors throttle bodies, sized for the 283, they simply do not make any. if you had the TBI unit running on the 350, the program and the throttle body/ injectors/ computer program are all sized for a 350, you will want to get at least the throttle body/ injectors for a 305, you may be able to have the computer reflashed to cope with 283 CI instead of 350 CI. don't get me wrong, could be a nice setup if it was tuned right but, it will take a lot of tuning because of the fact nobody supports TBI setup for a 283, and I have never heard of it being done. This setup isn't anything I would tackel myself because of the sheer tuning and cost of making it work.
I mean no harm and I did not mean to sound cranky but, I guess I did.:)Quote:

I just wanted to steer him in the right direction so he did not fail like I did. When I was 15, I bought a non running '83 MB 240D, and had plans to stuff a 350 Chevy in it, bought a wrecked '81 Impala for the donor, it actully had a 267, did not know that when I handed the 75 bucks over for it, I rushed into this project because I later learned a SBC would not fit in without major modification, stuff I could not do, so I junked the Impala and I junked the MB after I stripped it of it's good parts, in the end, I was only 375 bucks wasted but, it was a waste of my time.
i've heard that 305 ecm and injector will work yea it's a challenge but im stubborn thanks for the advice. and ya'll are probably right about the 283 being to small i figure if i do not like it then i'll go 327,350.
Yeah well, that 283 is still a really good motor so dont junk it or sell it cheap or nothing. Save it if you plan to do future builds. TBI is nice IMO. Something different. I think a 350 though with MPI would be awsome. But yeah Matt is probably right, throw a 327 or 350 in it. Difference in gas probably wont be much. Oh and you didn't affend anyone with the ricer comment... This is Club Hot Rod, we like and have hot rods. :D
im very surprised that nobody said anything about the weird grill
And a 65' Chevy 1/2 ton ..........
Welcome 2 CHR ! ......
Only thing weird IMO is the headlights. Too small. Other than that I wouldn't even care, I'd leave it the way it is for now and just drive the thing if it's road worthy.Quote:
