Go for it. I, for one, have never looked down my nose at anyone else's creation because of the components used. Heck, on my last roadster project, I even seriously considered using a Hudson 308 flathead six. The stock stroke was 4 1/2" and you could get a 5" crank for them. Torque monster.
You might want to look at Poli-Form for a roadster body. They make one that is stretched and you're sure to appreciate the additional room. That's the usual problem with T-buckets, your knees are in your chest.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.
".......So sanded it all down and resprayed. ......" Been there. done that on a couple of paint jobs over the years. Usually took me a couple of days to get over being mad before I started...
