Hi, i just wanted to say hi, im new here and i hope meet some cool people, my name is Joe I live in norfolk va. I have a 71 monte
with a 502 in it and a 6-71 blower, i can post some pics of it if anyone is interested. in what it looks like. i was surfing the net and came across this site so i decided to register. Ihope to hear from some of you. later,Joe
welcome BLOWN 502 MONTE ran a blown 454 a lot of yrs in va., got to the point i couldnt get a insp. sticker. you must know something i didnt. love to see the pic. chick my gallery out. :cool:

I dont know why Mike couldnt get a sticker, He had a cabnet full of them. We use to argue about State Inspection all the time. I tried to keep the hoods locked and hope he'd get so old that he would mistake a flowmaster for the cat. converter that wasn't there.
Sounds like you have a nice ride there. There are a lot of nice people here that you will enjoy conversing with . I live 2 hours west of you and Mike is another 2 and 1/2 hours further west :LOL: :LOL:
Hi thanks for the welcome!! as far as inspections go, its no big secret really i just registered it as an antique and i dont have to get it inspected. I will post some pics of the engine and other stuff i put in there here soon, i already posted a pic of the motor. talk to you later,JoeQuote:

Nice motor you have there. Did you buy the crate 502 and build from there or find a block and start from scratch? Also on inspection, my truck is a 66 but I just got regular plates and don't even think I said anything about an antique but I never got it inspected. In NC if you vehicle is 35 years or older then no inspection so I guess it doesn't matter?

Hey, yeah i was thinking about moving to NC. im not too far away from there as it is. as far as the block, no its a 454 block, heres what its got, 454 block .080 over JE SRP 9.0:1 forged blower pistons w/ floating pins, 6.385" 4340 chromoly steel H-Beam rods,
4.250" stroke 4340 chromoly steel crank (eagle crank and rods),
Bullet racing cams solid roller .635 lift int. .700 lift exh 300/320 dur. billet roller cam w/ comp cams roller lifters and roller moroso rockers. ARP main studs, ARP head studs, Pete jackson noisemaker (gear drive) High volume oil pump. Weiand blower intake with pop off valve, BDS custom rebuilt 6-71 supercharger approx. 20% overdriven to reach approx 14 psi max boost. Oh yeah a mallory distributor and two 850 holleys, i think thats about it for the motor, the tranny is a powerglide with everything except a transbrake, i dont think i need a transbrake if i do i will put one in it. The rear is a nine inch ford 3.70:1 gears moser axles the rear was cut and welded by quick performance out in iowa i think it is. I didall this work my self ive been working on this car and motor for about 2 1/2 years now. mainly building the motor for 2 1/2 years that was the really expensive part. later,Joe

i have full faith in that tranny i have a hardened input shaft billet steel clutch hub billet drum raybestos frictions and steels billet servo piston kevlar band full manual valve body, and i will be sporting a denny's driveshaft with 1350 solid u-joints, and you know what, if i pop that tranny it would be the case, the case is the only thing im worried about, if it lets go i wll be getting a JW racing tranny case and build it from there. Im not too worried about it, thats the main reason i didnt do a trans brake. i am running solid mounts all the way around and i will be chaining the left side of the motor to the frame so i dont have too much movement. i dont anticipate a problem but you never know i expect to see over 700 hp at the wheels so who knows.
i used to turn the trans. oil pan up against the floor board with the 350 and 400 trans. it would twist the bellhausen of the case .:CRY:
Wow thats gotta suck!! thats the only thing im really worried about is the case, you know? i have been contemplating just going ahead and start building a JW case powerglide you know? its just the case alone is a rip off and the bellhousing and then the tailshaft. i have put enough money into this car, shit the motor alone to make a down payment on a nice house you know?

I had a 71 vega with a jegs chassis ,fiberglass front end,bumpers and rear hatch,with a small block. The car only weighed 2250 lbs. I used a glide with a 5500 converter and it worked real well. I may be wrong,but I thought I had read and heard , forever, that the breakpoint was 3000lbs. If your race car weighed 3000 lbs. or less use a powerglide.If it weighed 3001 lbs. or more------------ Dont Do it !! :CRY: :CRY: Right or Wrong, that has stuck with me for a long time. Your Monte must be pushing 1000 lbs. more than that with a whole lot of horsepower.

Damn i came right past you when i came to get the car, i had to go to georgia to get the car, it was in tifton ga. yeah i have been thinking about moving out of here, i need to go somewhere that i can be outside all night working on the car if i want and not have any nosey neighbors peeking at me and then bitching about all the noise you know?Quote:

Well, the main reason i picked a glide was because of the light rotating assembly inside, it dosent take a whole lot to get it up to speed, where as a 400 turbo tranny or a 700r4 is way heavy duty but has a lot of weight to go along with it. if the glide dosent work out too well i will probably go with something a little heavier duty like a 400 tranny. i was thinking about going with a tremec 5 speed actually. as far as the weight of the monte, its 3300 lbs with a big block, now i dont know how much more with the blower, but i did take out alot of weight so far and plan on lightening it a little more as far as seats and interior parts go.Quote:

LOL rabbits foot!! i think im gonna need it!! thats funny:LOL: Yeah i am concerned with it but im gonna try it out and see how it works out. like i said if need be i will put in a heavier duty one. i mean its got all the good parts in it but im worried about the case.
I hear the cases are weak right by where the servo piston is for the band and over my the band adjustment nut i heard is wek also. Im not going to be racing this car every weekend though just once in a while, its going to be like a weekend car you know?
I'm a swing shifter myself an my neighbors are plenty used to coming over and looking at my project then handing me another beer under the car as they leave for work..... Gotta love the fever

Sounds like fun...lol...guys like you are why we moved to the country...lol...used to have a neighbor that would work all night on his car in his garage...problem was the garage was 8 feet from my bed! LOL...anyway...I understand now...it's me that wakes up at 2 am thinking about my cars lol...Have Fun!
Heh I know what you mean. If you want a place that is pretty country still and neighbors aren't right on your A$$ then a place here called Waxhaw is really nice. The stores and all aren't far either unless you think 15 minutes-20 is far but it's not bad at all. Where I live now is getting too crouded but my house is in the woods away from the main roads, etc and not bad at all and the homes are spaced out good and about 2 acres a yard. There in Waxhaw there is tons of land, etc and it's CHEAP as hell! Only reason I would like to stay here in NC is because land is cheap there and not tons of people at all and I would love to build me a shop on a ton of land and have a small trailor for a home and I'd be happy. :D If ya move out here then buy a ton of land, build you a house and let me build a sweet CJ7 jeep and lets make some 4 wheel drive trails through the woods and creeks, etc. heh Oh and a drag strip isn't far either from there and there is Rockingham as well about 45 minutes from Charlotte.Quote:

Dude line me up a job and id love to come out there, im used to living in suffolk va, well im lovely norfolk now but yeah im used to being about 8-10 miles from the main road. yeah real backwoods but hey you know im ready to get the hell outta here. If i got a piece of land out there man you would be more than welcome to 4 wheel on my land, i need about a half mile though to set up my 1/4 mile track. free admission for anyone on CHR!! seriously, if i could find a job out there id come out there. cant be no B.S. job though. me and the ole lady are lookin to move out of here for real....Quote:

Heh I hear ya. No way I would be able to find you a job though. I am only 18 and trying to get a job myself. Right now it is either me and this guy I know doing landscaping or if I find some more of these body work and primer jobs I will be good on that for now.
