what fun you can have with a sawzall and welder
I will take a moment to introduce myself. I am building my first "hot rod" although cars have always been a big part of my life. For the last 10 - 12 years I have been a devotee of VW's, I was a purist for most of that time and my cars and bus were strictly "factory". I have owned(at various times) a '59 ghia, a'54 oval bug, a '74 autostick,a '79 2 litre panel van and a '65 split window westy all original.
Currently I am building a '70 bug into a rat rod. The progress has been slow for a while but I'm rolling again. I have built and installed frame rails to the underside of the frame pan to compensate for the flex that comes with having no roof. The front axle is extended 10" and dropped 3". Head lights are from a '29 ford and rear lights are still open for discussion. Body has been shaved with mods to front and rear aprons. Front windshield is approx. 6" high in the center. I will run a stock motor this year and probably build a stronger one next winter if the car doesn't have any major problems.
I can "see" this rod with a'32 ford grill and modified hood happening in the future.
Thats it for now, Dave Forsythe Regina Saskatchewan Canada

Hi Dave. Good to hear from you. My brother was editor of VW Trends for a while, then a contributor for Hot VW. He had a couple of good VW hotrods over the years.
Back in the early 1970s a VW mechanic in Chico had one that would outrun most of the V8 iron of the day. Light and turned up as far as he could - it ran in the high 12s as I recall. The friend that was the original owner of my Shelby never would race him, and added the headers and big carb and so on just in case he ever ran into him on the Esplanade.
Pictures would be cool.... Welcome aboard!Tim -

the motto is: CUT....WELD....DRIVE !!!
On a bitterly cold winter morning a husband and wife were listening to the radio during breakfast. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park...
