A girl and her Biscayne

Howdy Im new from Australia.

I have finally bought myself a 58 Biscayne after seeing one at a hot rod show nearly 17 years ago! Like forty1 I bought mine interstate and drove it back. I spoke to the seller on the phone heaps of times and probably drove him mad (but I was excited). We (my husband and two girls) flew to Sydney and were met at the airport by "j". When I saw it I couldn't believe it. It was even better than I'd hoped. We drove back to Adelaide (1000km) and she never missed a beat!

It is totally original - two tone maroon and white with the original hubcaps. It even came with the visor that goes across the windscreen.

I have bought another motor and trans (350/350) that will go in it when the weather turns cold and wet. I have a workshop manual and will be doing all the work myself, with the help of my poor suffering husband, ha. I have had V8's in the past but have only done tune ups and rebuilt carbies so I am both excited and overwhelmed. I have to say it is a bit daunting asking questions and stuff, I don't want to appear dumb but if you don't ask you won't learn right?!

I drive a 68 Fairlane with C351 as my everyday car. I get heaps of nods and thumbs up from guys - they probably think it must be her ol man's car. Anyway Im the petrol head not my husband.

I have always loved cars, I wanted to be a motor mechanic when I was 14 but my dad said no daughter of his was going to get her hands dirty. Now Im a doctors secretary but am definitely not happy. All I want to do is live and breathe cars. I am looking around for another job hopefully as a mechanics receptionist so I can "be amongst it". Something will turn up.

Anyway, I think this is a fantastic site and I can't keep off it. I have had a couple of great replies to a question I posted and I look forward to speaking to more of you soon.

Welcome Trish to CHR. The 58 chevy's were great looking cars. What engine origionally came with your 58? 6 cylinder 283 or 348?

Its got the 283. Its actually a really good motor and goes hard but there's nothin like a V8. The 3 speed column shift is a real killer though, Im gonna end up with one leg bigger than the other! ha

Hot Rod Angel - I'd love to hear from you - all my friends with hot rods are guys. Do you work on your own car (and built it)? If so, did you learn as you went along?

I will definitely post a photo - when I learn how to!

Welcome to the Club Trish. It's great to see yet another early Chevy. Our cars share alot of the same parts......... well they used to.

Trish - I can definately relate to the all-guy friend deal...same with me...but, you know, it's not all bad...guys tend to tell it like it is, rather than "sugar-coating" things, you gotta respect that quality.

I've always been into cars, my daddy taught me how to take care of & work on my Corvair, and now, I do the maintenance & tinkering on it. I am also in the process of building my Stude pickup, and I am learning new things all the time with it! For me, it is definately a "learn as you go" process, and I have some really good guys that help me too, so that I don't stray too far off the path, you know?

All of the guys (& gals) are great here...they can answer all your questions, and give advice that will help you a bunch...

The hardest thing about the hobby is having an understanding spouse. ;)

My wife wasn't into it & used to gripe about all the time I spent in the shop. One day she mentioned wanting to understand. So, I had her do a complete rebuild on my reserve engine. I showed her how & she did the work.
We put it together in a couple days & hung it, I did all the final adjustemnts & connected everything, SHE started it.

The look in her eyes when that lil monster came to life under her hand was all I needed to know she finaly got it. She's been supportive ever since. **) She's even happy to come out & lend a hand anytime I need it, has been a great help in building my car, one day I'd like to find her one of her own.

Hi Trish, Australia huh, shew, i'd like to go there one day. I got Gators here, Lots of them, South Louisiana in the States. Anyways, i really like to see a woman working on cars and such, especially one that takes pride in them. My wife and her dad show also. They have 56 Fairlanes. One Covertible and one Coupe. Working on a 4 door now. I'm not much on Ford, but i do like all cars and Trucks. I have a Chevy 68 SWB Truck i'm working on. Gonna be a go to type of street rod. Hopefully will grace the pages of a couple magazines when its finished.

Anyways, Good luck with the V8.

sorry for me dropping into this post but i am so happy to finally have found somebody with the same car and the same setup.

just like the 58biscayne girl from australia i just got me a 1958 biscayne over here in cologne germany this march with about the same setup (4-door, six-cylinder, ... ) for now i just want to fix everything up to cruise to all the great car-meetings this summer but in the wintertime my chevy is gonna get a v8 and a new transmission, too

now i desperately need some help form you guys because my floor pans do have holes and i want to fix them with original floor pan reproductions. so here comes my question:

i find a lot of floor panels for the 2-door impala or bel air, but my biscayne is a 4-door(!).
Do the floor panels match for the 4-doors-cars, too?

Please all you late great chevy fans, please help me out before i order the wrong parts! thanx in advance!!!
