who am I?

I am your basic rodder on a budget. I barter, buy, sell and trade to get to the parts I want/need. It took me a long time to get my car to where I wanted it, but it was worth the journey. I have owned 20+ cars in my22 years with a driver's card... I have been fortunate enough to have some mopars, some GM products, 1 ford and mostly VWs. I was a GM wrench for some time, drove an 84 black on black Hurst/Olds and a 62 VW notchback at the same time frame. My love for anything mechanical has spilled over to my 19 month old daughter, Kaana. She loves cars, planes, bikes and boats! :D Anyway, this is me.

yes, it is a VW. it is a 1964 VW 1500. this specific model line started officially in 1962 and was imported to North America starting in 1963 as a stationwagon version. the fastback version was sent across the pond for the 1966 model year and the version i have was never officially imported to NA. Its nickname is the Notchback and I have been fortunate enough to own 5 of this version. 4 came out of France and 1 from Canada. This specific one and my other one pictured below came out of France. in true VW style, the engine is in the rear, but was under the trunk! the pink car is now mid-engined but the purple one still is in the stock layout for drivetrain.

been awhile since an update. the pink car is currently getting Hilborn MFI installed and WILL run on the street!

the purple car is being converted to a drag car. it will be turbo charged, fully streetable and i'm shooting for a 7.75 e.t. in the 1/8th.

i'm made some more updates on my cars...

here's the squareback with full air ride, bigger engine and heck... it even has a gas furnace under the front hood for those cold days.

just did 4300+ miles from Oregon to Misery (oops, Missouri) and back w/spooled rear end, temp license in the rear window (plate hadn't arrived yet), and unknow carbs (pulled the turbo for the trip). it was a trip...

Well, since the last update, I've added, then removed a draw through turbo set up on the purple notch. After that, I drove from Oregon to Colorado in the purple car for a show and drove it up Pike's Peak while there. It is now getting the turbo and EFI added back to it.
The pink car still has the 2332cc in it and is getting a set of IDF webers put on it for the season. I'm toying with the idea of running a pair of small turbos on it in the future... we'll see.
I've also sold the blue squareback and picked up a different squareback and a late model (different nose) notchback that will become a dedicated bracket drag car in the future.
Busy, busy, busy!

Cool bunch of Vee Dubs. Is that 412 in post #11 yours, too? Back in the late '70's I had one of those and like it. I also had a '71 Karmann Ghia convertible and kind of wish I still had that one.

My cars both spent time running around during Graffiti Weekend in Roseburg, OR this last week/weekend. Some little things to deal with, but it was great to have them both running and driving!

Here I am again, remembering to check in... Doh! I'm hoping to have the last 2 VWs I own both ready for the upcoming spring/summer. I am putting better heads and EFI on my purple notch's 2.1L engine and trying to get the pink topless car NHRA legal. That means all new cage, safety equipment and time to actually race.

That's my downfall right there.. TIME! :LOL::LOL:
