here is my buggy, the plan is to put a carson top on it at some point cos the weather over in the uk is not so good for 11 months of the year....got the urge for flames too....



the beetle is a mess at the mo, paint microblistering from the PO's budget sprayjob, doors with more rust at the bottom than seal, i'll be documentating the Rat rod conversion, but it may be slow as the car is my daily driver for the 11 months of the year that the buggy sulks in the garage!

This takes me back about 15 years. I had a "Sand Rover" with a gold metalflake finish. I put a black "Model-T" top on it with small front tires and big rear tires, both white walls. I rebuilt the 1500 case up with 1600 sleeves, but I never made it to dual port heads, just a Norris cam and a BugSpray intake with a Holley carb. However, I was able to get some heavy gauge chrome headers and it ran great, except I used old lifters with the Norris cam. There was no champher on the edges of the regrind cam and in about 2000 miles it "machined" the lifters down to nothing. Make sure any cam you get which might be a regrind has the 45 degree champher on the cam edges, otherwise when the lifters rotate the sharp edge cuts away the face of the lifter. Well I replaced the lifters and sold it after my wife judged that the baby seat in the back was too dangerous for our first little girl. I also recall running 12 gauge wire to all the lights as a ground. Anyway today you can get 1800 sleeves easily and with a chopped flywheel even a VW engine can be quick on the street. By the way, the heads are easy to port using a rotary file bit and a drill, the Aluminum heads are like butter with a rotary file, much easier to work than iron heads.
