High 340 Oil pressure

:whacked: Does any one have a solution for high oil pressure?

Ive got a 1970 block which had been redone with the best of everything. Not to bore U with specifics. I believe there has been an oil restriction plug installed in an oil passage somehwere which is boosting the psi to 80 lbs at idle. I have been trying to find out who can provide info of where this restrictor could be places and some people say behine the timing chain and others behind a plug in the bell housing. Any help would be appreciated.

the only plugs that i know of, are used to restrict oil pressure, the one in the back of the block cuts down on oil pressure when you put solid lifters in. sounds like to me youve get a bad oil pump or a stuck oil valve in the pump. we used to stretch the oil pump spring(or put a washer behind it) and end up eith eather to much pressure or i have blown the oil filter off of the motor. i think its the oil pump:D

The motor does have solid lifters. Cant be the oil pump because I already put in a brand new melling. Im still getting 80 psi at idle. Now where the oil returns to the block there is one open hole and one with a plug Im wondering if that plug should be there? Im grasping at straws. No idea. Because the motor is totally rebuilt coould it be tight tolerances? I have no idea.

After reading your reply again maybe t he plug is missing thats why the pressure is too high where is this plug located exactly.

the plugs are at the back of the block, one on the right and left side of the cam plug. the plugs goes into the lifter oil gallery, with solid lifters you put restrictors in them because you dont need as much oil at the lifters. if youer running hyd. they should not be pluged.there is 2 more behind the timing cover you could check.
