Pics of the HEMI and some questions

We are still strugling for money and probably won't be able to have any big work done soon, but were still planning. I was looking around the hotheads website and came across a rebuild option they have for HEMI heads and wanted to know what yall thought. This is a 392 that will probably get a 6 or 8-71.

And for the paint. This is not the final job, after we get the machining and what not done, we will probably have it acid bathed and then a high quality coat applied.

hmmm.. What kind of valves are they using? What kind of springs and what pressure are they, how much lift will they accept? I'd be a tad nervous about someone putting parts in my heads for a blower application engine if I didn't know that it was high quality parts going in it... There's a lot more to consider then just who has the lowest price. As the saying goes, you usually get what you pay for......

i did not think that price was that geat on the heads ?seeing that they need ? your old cores?

Here's my 2 cents.:rolleyes:

Go to: http://www.hotrodsandhemis.com/ and click on rebuilding a hemi, and print it out.

Then go to the Hot Heads site and order a copy of Tex Smith's "The complete Chrysler Hemi engine manual (around $30).

Read both and then re-read them again.

Knowlege is the best way to figure out what your going to have to do to build one of these engines.

Any engine you build (but especially if if your looking at things like supercharging) will require the best BOTTOM END you can afford to build. Yes the heads, pistons and cam are what make power, but the bottom end is what makes the engine live. I personally would concentrate on that area of that first.

I noticed a couple of broken valve guildes on you heads, but I suspect that buy buying the required parts yourself and finding a GOOD local macine shop you will be a good deal of money ahead.

That being said, Bob at Hot Heads sells quality parts, and is one of the most knowlegable people on these engines...... I would not be afraid to go the exchange route if thats what you want to do.

some machine shops like to get the parts they like to use BUT saying that they maybe would want you to get them on something this old? on the head work they are not that much diferent than any old iron heads they will need hardend seats on the ex side and on them chip guides do not worry to much on that i use a manganese bronze guides that od is .502 so this will fixs them up so the seal will work on them and a good 3 angle valve job and some ss valves .who ever works on your heads i would make sure you get the same heads back you do not want some heads that are beat to hell and the bottom end would be a good place to spend your money this will have alot to do with how much boost
