I work for Dallas Dodge here in Dallas, TX. We have a Speed shop here in our dealership. We took an 1984 Ram short bed. We put the Mopar Performance 5.7 Crate engine in it. From Mopar you can get that Engine 2 ways, with Carburetor, or Throttle body. They both comes with a computer and wiring. We put the Carb verson in with a 46RH trans. it has 410 gears. the best time in a 1/4 we could get it to run was 14.7 at 91mph. not too bad for a heavy truck.
Sounds like a neat setup in the short box Dodge!! Got any pics of it under the hood?
i got some. but not sure how to post them on here.
lets see if these pics work
Man, that is one sharp looking Mopar, thanks for the pics!!!!! That is some really nice lettering, vinyl or painted on? How does the Hemi do on fuel mileage and pulling power?
The lettering is a vinyl decal. the gas mileage is not that bad. some were between 16 to 20 mile per gallon. it does have 410 gears. not sure on pulling power. we built it for speed. it does pull hard out of the hole!!!lol!!! the put it up for sale. we spent 30k. they are asking 19k.
"they put it up for sale. we spent 30k. they are asking 19k."----thats the story of every damned hotrod I ever built.
they are bored with it. we put line lock on it, electric Ext cut outs.
I noticed a 65 Barracuda that had a 383 in it on ebay, the car had stock 383 exhaust manifolds. My question here is do you think the 5.7 Hemi could be transplanted into the 65 or 66 Barracuda without major cutting? It seems like you have a bit of experience along these lines.
Any info would be appreciated.
by the way the transplants here are Great!!!
I can not say for sure, but I expect it will fit without lotta problems. Opinion only, do not actually know.

It would be very tight and would definitely have to have custom headers. The early A bodies have extremely tight engine compartments. The 273 and LA engines are tough enough. The 5.7 is a very wide engine with coil packs and accessories. Certainly would be quite a ride with the 5.7 Hemi. The A-body did not officially receive the B or RB engines until the 1967 Model year. They are wider than the early A-body. A 65 Barracuda would require some creativity to get the 383 to fit, but certainly could be done.
Back to the money....buy high-sell low. Always works on Hot Rods.
depends what your market is.... here in san diego its buy junk make it look and run like a jewel and sell it high.... i've seen plenty of cars here that guys put about 5k into it and sell it for about 35-40k..... we have a good market here.... i make more money doing it than i do working in the shop, but i'm saving up to start my own hotrod shop.... one of the cars i did was a 62 mercury monterey found it in the junkyard paid $500 for the car with a straight body... redid the intererior and paint for 4k cleaned the motor up and put a new carb on it, sold it for 26k
