i recently put a 340 built and put in my 69 cuda, do I need to run the engine @2000 rpm for 20 min to break in the cam, ive heard that you need to and i hear that you cant...please help. thanks.

I run between 2000 and 2500 for 20 minutes, but I know others that do not break them in. I would advise breaking it in.
Definately break it in. Same for me 2200-2500 for 20 min. Just did a 318 cam swap last weekend. Put in SSI's (PAW) version of the factory 340 cam in his 318. I was hoping the cam would be lumpier then it was, but it sure runs out strong.
kind of off topic but i did one of those 340 318 cam swaps when i was younger same thing thought it would be a lumpy cam but it ran nice and strong . i then changed the heads to a milled 360 head bigger valves and at least a point in comp , then the little motor really picked up its feet.
i also do breakins on cams but its not just for the cam after having the engine aparts its good to run it and look for leaks and time it etc.
