Could somebody tell me if the solenoid for a 440 engine is attached to the starter or is it located somewhere else? I know most cars have them as part of the starter but I'm not sure that is the same with Mopars, you know how Mopar likes to do things in strange ways.

Allright, i'll play. GM has a history of putting the solinoids on the starter. However, Ford and AMC tend to put it on the sidewall of the engine bay. dont ask me why. My guess would be that it is on the passeneger side of the engine. If not, theen trace the + down to the starter. Thats all i can tell you.
Chrysler did not put the solenoid on the starter.
Chrysler doesn't call it a selenoid ,their term was starter relay it's usually a small square deal with 3-4 wires goin to it and was usually mounted on one of the inner fender wells close to the battery....
Actually there is a solenoid on the starter, it kicks the gear in to the flywheel. The relay is a box on the fender, that allows a point to pick up power without having a live lead to the starter all the time.
the solenoid is on the starter, most poeple didnt replace them because you had to take the starter apart and unsolder some wires to change it. replaced a lot of them. **)
