    Carter AFB's

I've got a friend with a boat that has 2 Chrysler 440's with AFB's and mechanical advance points distributors. We would like to upgrade to electronic ignition and are looking at the Mopar's electronic distrib for a little over $150 each. The only problem is that they are vacuum advance. So, the question is, where would I hook up the vacuum advance on a Carter AFB? Or, would I be better off running without vacuum advance? Though, in a boat it may be important as driving a boat in water is like driving a truck up a 20% grade all of the time.

Ok, I just didn't know if the weights were sprung differently between a vac advance and a mech advance distrib. The spacer plate is a good idea if I were to run vac advance.

Save your distributors, just replace your points setup with a pertronix unit, I have run these in three different apps and all do great

Marine distributors need to make good power from 2500 to 3500 RPM as the revs rarely drop below 2000 and never go above 3500. I want to go to electronic as you don't have to worry about water on the points or corrosion. We were planning on a pair of these: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=DCC%2D3690432

Uh.....The Pertronix unit is ELECTRONIC, as for the rpm range you set that where you want it with a weight & spring kit, click the linc and read up on the Pertronix.

Will the conversion work in a distributor that doesn't have dual points?

Any AFB I ever saw had a vacuum port on the front face, offset to the passenger side, for the vacuum advance. The Petronix conversion is the way to go, too.
