Question What can U tell me about this Mustang Cobra? What is it?

Hey, I found this car close by where I live...I like it...what can you tell me about it IE: year, value etc.? Heard it was for sale for about 4,800 - 5,500 bucks, but there was no # listed on it so I can't call the owner to get info.

Bill S. is right....it is a 77/78 Mustang II, I had one with the 4 speed & the 302. A lot of car for the time, it was hard to get it to hook-up.

Looks like its got glass in it. Notice the almost Dent in the fender. Or is it just me? My advice would be to locate the owner and find a magnet. Either thats glass/bondo, or my eyes are decieving me at the ripe old age of 20

John, The pics aren't that great cause I took em with my phone/camera...so I appreciate you takin the time to blow them up...BUT...I'm pretty sure that the hood decal is original...but not in fantastic condition...and it's really clean...and I live in Michigan so I just can't imagine that this little puppy has been left outside very much recently and still have anything left of the decals...this gal that owns it works at this place and has been bringing it on nice days...but she wasn't there when I stopped. The wheels were incredibly clean...rims had the orange color of the car and were a bit like a tiny version of my snowflake rims on the T/A...but with a "KING COBRA" in the center...It's an automatic with leather & "wood" trim interior...hmmmm now that I think about it...the wood is a little faded...

So yeah...I liked the axonyms? Richard/Inspector...ha ha...that surprised me comin from you~!!!! LOL...

Streets...Ya wanna be a little more clear and tell me how ya REALLY feel about the Fords??? LOL!!!!

If it's a real King Cobra it's a 78 (the only year they were produced). As with all the Mustang II options the King Cobra package was strictly an appearance package and did not include any high performance engine upgrades.

Of all the Mustang IIs the Kings command the highest price (and if this one is in decent shape the asking price in in the correct ball park. Most parts are still readily available for these cars either through the aftermarket or on E Bay. The major exceptions are V8 motormounts (although there is a guy on www.mustangii.net that is apparently starting to make these) and replacement decal packages.

All in all they are not a bad little car, a little underpowered but the engine responds as well to preformance upgrades as any other 302. The transmission is a standard Ford C4 but with a Mustang II only smaller bellhousing and flexplate. The rear end will be an 8" unit.

Hey you guys are amazing! OK, I looked at this car up close & personal and didn't see that stuff! I gotta get better at this! I'm gonna take Dave's advice and carry a magnet! Bill, i'm interested in where you found those pics? I'm not sure that it's the same car... even with the problems that you guys pointed out, those pictures look to be a car that's in quite a bit better condition (at least asthetically) than the one I was looking at...which tells me to either steer clear of this one OR...get a better deal. In either case, I appreciate your input!

    Jerilynne,

Check out how clean this one is. I generally liked this car, but traded it off because the motor wasn't really set up to gain much performance. They put the same turbo on it as was use by quite a few 4-cylinder ricers of the time. It ran like a bat out of hello on the top end, but didn't have much acceleration. Mine had different wheels, though. Are yours original?

    By the way, it's so clean because it's a 1981 photo . . .

I would normally be offended reading anti-FORD comments, but we're used to them. People tend to band together when they have a common interest, so if I wanted to be a follower I'd buy into a SBC or mabey even spring an extra 25 cents for a BBC. See who's winning at the track? Oh its blue oval. I won't rub any noses in it...... and I won't call down what u drive. I know whats good.
