building an erra correct hot rod need some help with the engine the car is a 31 ford model a and the engine is a 59 401 buick nailhead engine what parts should i install to make this an erra correct engine like the cars were built in the late 50s early 60s
A guy on a budget would have finned aluminum valve covers, a tri power setup, chrome coil cover, chrome generator cover, Chrome voltage regulator cover and transparent red spark plug wires.
If you had more money to spend you would have six carbs on a chromed log manifold with a finned aluminum valley cover. Chrome plated generator instead of a cover. chromed throttle lincage and all brackets.
I don't know why but I'm thinking yellow engine paint.
ive got some emails about the build let me clarify it a little more an erra correct late 50s early 60s hot rod but not a show car it is supposed to look and function just like the guys used to build them some people would call it a rat rod so far its a chopped and channeled 31 ford model A on a zd model A frame the engine is a 59 buick 401 nailhead the plan is to go with a log intake and 6 stromburg 97 carbs
also wondering what transmission i should use if anybuddys got any ideas about parts or anything about the build send them my way
Trans should be a genuine B&M Hydro, good luck finding one. Rear end out of a '57 Pontiac would work great. Era correct sounds so much better than rat rod. Post us some pics of the "A" as you go along. Oh yeah, and don't forget the painted wheels with chrome center caps and trim rings. I'm sure Coker has the tires and wheels that would be most righteous on such a ride.
this is more of a question then any thing arent generators hard to come by my old truck had a generator in it but went south so I converted to a alternator I wanted a chrome one till I seen the price of them. Then it was a $120 so I thought I would save money and polish the one I have I think the next time I wont be so cheap and just bye the chrome one that was some hard work. Ive rebuilt that one a couple time just so I wouldnt have to I know this is side tracking the post and I am sorry but how pleantifull are generators:confused:
I usually see generators at swap meets ranging from $5 for used ones to $50 for new or rebuilt ones still in the box. There's not a lot of people looking for them. I've never seen a good chrome one for sale though. I'm not sure if the chromed covers are still available. You might have to make your own out of a thin sheet of polished stainless.
