We took the '51 out for a spin a few nights ago

Me, my dad and my brother ran the '51 up and down the road tuesday, we made about 4 rounds and then when we were turning around for the last time we felt it skip, we were going down hill and the engine cut out but we coasted it down the hill within 500 foot of my house and then, I ran and got a gas can full of gas and a 3/8 rubber gas line and then we had to run the car off the 1 gal gas can to get it the 500 foot to the house.As many know the former owner of the car cut the line to put rubber line in and a fuel filter. We now know that the screen at the tank ( if there is 1 ) or the hard gas line is slightly plugged and the last time it compleatly plugged. 1ce we started it with the small gas can, the clear view fuel filter filled right full and normally on the gas tank in the car it is half full or less.

I believe I'd drop the tank and clean it out before it strands you further from home. You also may have to run a new hard line from the tank. Hope you get it under control, your first ride is precious.

I'm gonna drop the tank, drain it first though. Now that we know what's going wrong, it shouldent be to hard to correct the problem, probably will put nice new fuel line in with a fuel filter ( not rubber hose kind like what's there ). I'd also like to paint the tank up so it looks better.

Yeap, what Streets said. Plus check the pick up tube in the tank. On my F100 I found it it had a hole in it so every once in a while it would stop siphoning and leave me stranded.

Take it to a Radiator shop and have it hot tanked and any repairs that might need to be done, then undercoat it and "rattlecan" over the coatin'.. :p Also use NEW straps to hold it in there!

How much does hot tanking cost?

Matt, I've used a two part sealer available at parts stores in gas tanks after having them hot tanked. Can't remember right off what it is called, but will find out for you if you're interested.
