lets talk 57 terms shall we?
Peace,
i view classics as cars that take you back in the day when the car was made. why am i saying this well because most restored older autos have modern inovations - unleaded gas, fm radio, non fre on a/c. hmm. well my car is more then my Betsy. its a time machine. it still has a like new am radio, lead burning v8, with the original factory air to! man thats cold stuff! whew! now lets discuss this shall we? my car even has the original paint job which just needs a polishing and its almost brand new sept for the underframeAll We Are Saying is Give Peace A Chance

Well, there are several schools of thought on this. I think it's great to keep them original, but reality is, people have been modifiying cars since the first one was bolted together. Folks sometimes take a car right off the show room and start making changes. Finding a car like yours is almost impossible these days, they have either been restored or hot rodded or somewhere in between, not many true survivors. I think all varieties are great and have no problem admiring any of them. For my personal cars, I like to improve and personalize them. My '53 for example has almost nothing original on it, and even the original pieces have been tinkered with.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Since you list it as a 4 door hardtop I'd say leave it stock. Paint is only original once. Factory A/C is EXTREMELY rare for a '57. Knowledgeble car people will be more wowed by a nice original car, regardless of it being a 4 door, while if you did the major rodding thing they'd wonder why you fixed up your grandpa's car instead of finding a cool 2 door.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

I'd say depends on the year, some old cars weren't made for todays speeds. handling and brakes and all. I sure wouldn't want to being duing 70 mph with old 34 brakes.
It also depends on the person. some say it takes a man to cut up a old car. sometimes i quess im not a manThe only dumb question is the one you don't ask..
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
