I'am thinking about do a trade for a 34 ford 5 window coupe ,all steel body.This would be my first street rod of this type. Does the 5 window have more room inside then the 3 window ? I dont see many 5 windows out there are they harder to find more in demand ? I would like to know if there is any adavantages with a 5 window. It has a stock mustang II front suspension with 2 inch drop spindles and 4 wheel disc brakes. It all done up with all the goodies.

I have pictures that were sent to me from the owner.I need to learn how to post them here.I might trade my 56 Belair pro street for it.I want something i can drive on long trips.Pro street cars are lot of fun and killer looks but not good for the long haul.This 34 has a 400 small block chevy,roller motor,tunnel ram and dual 650 holleys dyno at 630hp,sounds like something i need:cool: The wife said the 56 was to powerful for her to drive , I told her this one is more practical and she could drive it:D
There were more 5-windows built than 3-windows, but 5 windows are cool. For a long time, everyone was going for 3-windows - apparently because they look a bit "meaner" when chopped.Quote:

As I remember, all you get with a 5-window is a narrower door and more glass.

Downside of a 3-window . . . the cartop carrier won't fit.

5 window is not as desireable as a 3 window, but they are way coooool ! ! ! not much if any bigger inside a 3/5 window. --- things i would look for are: not chopped toooo low, STOCK chrome grill, interior garnish mouldings, STOCK WINDSHIELD FRAME, COWL VENT, mustang front is not so cool for a 32-33-34 because it can be seen & they are kinda ugly compaired to a dropped axle. but look to see if the front tires are IN PLACE ( not toooooo far back in the fender) terrible, then you'll need a mask to drive it. LOL! -- but can be fixed.
is it a chopped car?
Heres how i look at things: a full fendered 34 for instance thats been smoothed out, no door handles, glass (painted grill), smooth hood sides, etc... is very cooooooool..........BUT... A 34 with chrome windshield (CRANK OUT) frame, stock louvered hood, chrome grill, door handles, maybe bumpers ...etc.... is ALOT MORE CAR! ALOT MORE MOOOOOOOOLAH, ALOT MORE BUYERS!
A resto style rod with the goodies it came with is ALOT of car!
ive watched 2 guys sit together at shows with the same steel 34 3 windows for years. the unchopped resto rod of the 2 cars gets a wanted to buy note in it everywhere he goes.
its all personal preference in that aspect BUT a 34 ford coupe is something not easily replaced. (VERY DESIREABLE!)
i check E-bay every day 1933-34 ford & 33-34 ford & I have had it brought to my attention that only once in awhile a built right steel 34 gets on ebay. if you own one & are thinking of selling, mention it to a couple guys & word spreads like wild fire & soon your phone explodes with calls from all over!
GET THAT EARLY FORD!!! YOU'LL NEVER REGRET IT!

Thanks for the reply back i can use the advice here and be sure i'am not getting into trouble.This 34 5 window has had a 2 inch chop top ,so its not to low,door handles and truck lid have no handles is remote with suicide doors.rack&pinion steering, looks like it has all new glass and custom leather interier,ac that is mounted in the truck and it vents out beside the seat and behind .he said the compressor is mounted below the engine! custom guages in the dash,the front wheels look like they are dead center in the fender to me they look just right not off balance,4 wheel disc,polished torque thrust wheel.sanderson headers,full length 3inch exhaust,flow masters,350 turbo and a 8inch rear.It has glass fenders and running boards.It has a lavender paint job with a design on the side that was probaly a very high end job and it looks to be in mint shape,but i would have to paint it all black,base/clear.If you want to see pictures let me know i will send them to you personally i would for you to see them.I still need to download them to list them here on the site.It was made in 1990 by someone in Arizona.

The engine is built.It is dynoed at 5200rpm> 558 torque >552hp
and the torque goes down from there now at 6500rpm >509torque>630hp
it has a 8 inch ford and ladder bar/coil overs.
Theres no inside difference to speak of between a 3 vs 5 window coupe. The 5 window has less blind spots butthe 3 window has always been more of a sporty style. The major difference is the 5 window has a shorter door, which are also the same as the fron doors for the fordor sedan(to make room for the side windows).
But the best thing i like about this car is it is a real car (steel). And everyone who knows anything about a pointed-nose Ford knows they arent making 5 windows in glass yet (did I mention not yet?).
I completely agree about the dropped axle is the ONLY way to go due to the openess of the fenders. And I would second the black w/flames motion too. But what do I know?

As for the car, my first advice would be to make sure you REALLY like it. From what I can see in the pictures it's got good "bones". In other words, there's a lot of good there to work with. I've long recommended that people buy an existing car if it's fairly close to what they want/expect in a rod since they'll usually end up with less money and time in it, and can get on the road quicker. That of course is predicated on "buying it right", and not having to redo "everything", and that what is going to be retained is done well.
As you mentioned, it was built around '90, which means it was planned in the late '80's..............and looks it. That may be why he's lookin' for a trade, because he's been trying to sell it for some time, probably at a strong price, and because of the dated styling he's not had any takers. The pastel color/graphics was trendy for that time frame but is long gone now. As you've said, you want to repaint it black. Good choice, that's a timeless color. But make sure the body is absolutely flawless because, unlike the light color on there now, black will show every wave, ripple, and blemish in the bodywork. Odds are the interior is just as dated, probably a two, maybe three, tone, keying on the lavender theme. Probably a tweed/vinyl/leather, swoopy/darty kind of thing. Again, very dated, and likely incompatible with your black/flames theme. Depending on what your objectives are, the boy racer engine could offer some challenges. While it might produce some interesting bragging numbers, is it a pleasure to drive, or is it temperamental in the kind of driving conditions you intend. If you're just going to do a bonzai run to the cruise in, then you'll probably have fun with it. If you plan on cross country rod runnin' then you may not enjoy it so much. Be realistic about your intentions, or plan on throwing more dough at a significant de-tune.
After that it probably gets down to personal taste issues. The chop is proportioned well, the hood's louvered, and except for the tail lights, this car could be readapted to several themes without too much trouble. Personally I'd get the rear end narrowed as it looks like the tires poke out about an inch or so. Some would say just get wheels with more negative offset, but unless you go for the painted steelies look, that usually ends up looking a bit dorky with alloy wheels that don't have enough "depth". Then, with the wheels tucked in, drop the back end 1 - 1 1/2 inches to get the stance right.
If you're not in your trade stock too bad the economics can work out okay. Depending on your talents and quality standards it could get a tad pricey. If you have to hire it out and have a good eye/standards, figure; paint - $8-10k (black requires work), interior - $2-6k, engine mods - $1-3k, miscellaneous other stuff that you never dreamed of - $2-4k.
The insides is not to bad for an older resto.I could live with it for while untill i do a change over to black .He said the engines runs 180-200 depends on conditions and i talked to the builder so i know what it is made up of.I have someone who will do a show paint job for under 5000 thats a top notch award winning job he is fair and good.Flames extra.PPG paint,base/clear.I dont thinkl the insides would have to be changes right away but later i would want to something to my tastes.I would want to lower the back.Besides that i think it would be very presentable.He said he has 12,000.00 in the engine.Thats possible i guess if you had someone do everything.He was trying to sell it not long ago for 35,000 and i think the paint was a lot of why it did not sell if it was black i think a steel 34 would have brought that.I have a lot less in mine i did a lot of the work myself thats why. I thought mustang II front ends were still the hot item.

check out these flames what do you think on a all black 34 maybe around the front fenders and going up a little neasr the top of the fender ? I dont realy want to flame the sides,i need to see some flame jobs pictures ,give some suggestions and ideas.
