Why Hot Rods?

I AM DOING SOME RESEARCH ON WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE "HOT RODDING?" CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN IT TO ME? WHY DO HOT RODDERS DO WHAT THEY DO TO BUILD THE PERFECT "ROD"?
