I bought a 47 - 53 Chevy pickup 2 weeks ago to rod for my Son. The truck had no title & I can find no evidence of a VIN no.
I would like to optain a 1948 title for this truck. Anyone have any advice?

Best to check with the DMV, as to what the procedure in Florida is....seems that every state or province is different when it comes to this stuff.
Probably will at least need a sworn statement of sale.
If you can't find proof of the model year somewhere on it, they may want you to register it as a 2004, which means emmission testing and safety standards.
Perhaps someone can sell you a serial tag and ownership, or buy a parts truck with an ownership.
Antique plates might be an easier way to get it licensed. But then your probably limited to how much and where you can drive it. Poncho62 is probably right ..... best to ask the guys you have to ultimately satisfy..... the local DMV guys.Quote:

does it have a motor in it??? if so some states used the motor numbers, if yours does, use those numbers to get a title & then get DMV to come out & give ya new tag because you lost yours. just may do the trick...joe
Some states (I know Washington does cause I went througt it there. live in Bonney Lake from 90 to 99) require you to bring it into the Highway Patrol inspection station, even on a trailer. Once they have made sure it's not stolen and you have a bill of sale, they will issue a new VIN and you can get a temp title which becomes permanent after 3 years.
As for the VIN, Chevy, riveted a metal tab on the driver's side door frame at about eye level with the VIN. On the GMC, it was lower (about Shin level) and instead of a VIN, GMC called it a serial number. I don't know why the difference between the two. Also, the same number was stamped on top of the frame on the driver's side about where the motor mount is. It was also stamped on the passenger's side underneath the bed back by the right rear wheel. It seems there was one other place, but I can't seem to remember it off the top of my head. You may have to scrape off all of the old road gunk to see it; but unless it was ground off, it should be there.Quote:

Good luck,

The trk has no serial nos anywhere. About 15 yrs ago I had a friend that was in a similiar situation & he bought a title from a outfit in Maryland. As I recall they gave him a title & paperwork to get a current title.
Does anyone know about this outfit & is it legal?
Thanks Don
