My wife has a Taylor 714, very nice guitar. Taylor's seem to be set up well from the factory, they always play nice. I've been lusting after a Gibson songwriter deluxe for years but have been too cheap to pull the trigger. Speaking of cheap, I bought a pair of Yamaha guitars to take camping with us and have been amazed at their tone and playability, I think they are as nice as guitars costing a 1000 bucks more. Liked them so much I bought a 12 string for the wife's birthday, it's super nice too.

I think Taylors and Martins are way over rated. I've got two 70's model Guild acoustics that I wouldn't trade for either of those regardless of how expensive they were. I guess I'm a tone freak. That might explain why I love the Flowmasters on my old truck. Haha

I think I'm going to try to do this swirl finish on my cheap Glarry Jazz bass. I'm going to pull out the frets to make it fretless too. I've only got 75 bucks in it so not much to lose.

Back to the Rock and Roll. I had my son in law build me a strat replica that matched my 33 Ford, sort of a hillbilly ZZ Top thing. SIL is an experienced Luthier and has done quite a few Basses. It took him a while to get it to the point he was satisfied. It is an awesome piece of work that he did. He color matched the paint, and developed a lot of details that brought the theme across ranging from the lettering on the headstock, the 33 emblem on the heel, and the gearshift knobs along with the chrome hardware. The pick guard is in the shape of a 33 Ford Grill. He is still setting it up so I haven’t got my hands on it yet but I cannot wait.

I finished the swirl paint on my jazz bass, used magic marble paint and spray max 2k clear. I re cut the headstock, stained and tru oiled the neck and did a fretless conversion with CA glue surface.

Thanks! Your tele looks cool, was it a kit or a rebuild? I did a finish on a maple fretboard cheap china strat, I used tru oil and some amber stain , it looks great but it feels sticky when my hands start sweating. I went over it with some Deft lacquer and it's somewhat better but still kind of sticky.
