I was on a service call to a guy who accidentally put DEF in his fuel tank on his tractor and I seen this gem on the yard. I talked to the guy who did it and it's sitting on a Dakota 4x4 chassis with a 318. He got the pickup from a grove about 4 miles away and paid $200 for it.He just got it going and has some more stuff to take care of on it but he's driving it. Stuffs still out there you just have to find it.

Brings back some fond memories. I had a neighbor with one of those stuffed back in a shed back in the late 60's..... it hadn't run in years I did my darnedest to buy it from him. He wouldn't sell but ended up hiring me to get it running and mechanically road worthy, mostly little things and a brake job.
It even still had the hand crank mounted behind the seat and by the time I got done you could hand start it if you wanted to.
After I got done with it he sent it out for paint and upholstery....about the same green that one started out as. It eventually went to one of his grandkids when he passed.
Oh well I probably would have just hot-rodded it anyway :LOL:

Great looking truck; a buddy of mine in high school drove an old 1960 IH truck before old trucks were cool.
to me it looks like the Dakota chassis might be a bit wide for that early of an IH, maybe an S10 chassis would fit better?Quote:

I have restored several over the past years and like the earlier cars the parts for the trucks are getting easier to come by. The thing about it is a pickup was a tool now its a fancy mode of transportation, Lincolns Cadilacs and others jump on the wagon, and people buy them. A contractor has to order a truck with out all the B/S on them. It would be hard to buy one with out all the extras.

My grandpa farmed and had livestock from the 30's until he retired in the 70's, he never did own a pickup. One story was he went to town one day and bought a new utility pole. The guy at the lumber yard asked " Oscar, how do you think your going to get that back home" he said " Like this" then tied a chain around the pole and then to the bumper of his Chevy and off he went :LOL::LOL:Quote:

I did the same thing here 25 years ago for a yard light pole drug it 3 miles to get it home to long for truck bed

Reminds me of the time I went over to help my folks move from a rented house they'd been in up the blacktop road about a mile or so to the place they'd bought. Dad had a little shed that he'd built on 4x4 sleepers, sloped front & back to help positioning it, like runners. He'd asked a neighbor to bring his big IH tractor down to just drag it up the road, into the back yard but he didn't count on the 1/2" of ice that we got during the night, with temps headed up into the mid-30's that morning. Not to go back on a promise, here came the farmer on the tractor, and they looped a long, strong nylon tow rope around the shed (maybe 8x16) and dropped the tractor into 4 wheel drive. He took off, stretching that rope and the shed broke loose from the ice and shot forward. Away he went up the icy road, shed swinging side to side behind him. He slid it into place without hardly messing up the grass! Sometimes Mother Nature helps us out!!

Reminds me of oldest son's first house. He remodel the front door and jamb and floor inside. The house had a precast front porch after all work was done the porch was 3/4" to tall. YEP he tied a chain around it and drug it around the block till it fit just right.
That was a darn nice score for $200. I like that truck a lot Seth. Thanks for sharing it.
