What is wrong with people ?

When we went to check out Dodge at the storage unit we drove past this 58 Vette rotting away behind the gate. I don't know how many years it's sat there, the cover is rotted off but they must still be paying the monthly rent. I'm sure their going to " fix it up someday. " Pretty sad.

Didja try to bring that one home too? 8-)

I remember a 65 or 66 Mustang that was setting behind a garage while I was growing up. It was a Fastback ,white with blue stripes.
It was in good shape when I first went to ask if they might consider selling it.. and each year I went back to ask.. it slowly slid into a rotting mess and then one day it was gone. I never knew where it went. It was rumored that it went for scrap. Sad really.

No, usually when something has been sitting there that long it's not for sale anyhow. There's a guy a couple miles away from me who has the same thing going on as the mustang you talked about. He's got some 55 Chevys in the back, a 67 Camaro and a 71 Monte Carlo up front. I seen his latest edition has been a 50-ish Chevy pickup and a 70 Camaro that have got added to his vehicle compost pile. Most of the stuff there has been sitting in the same spot as it was 30 years ago when I was riding the school bus to school. he gave me a tour of the place a while back but the first thing he said was "remember nothing is for sale".

I don't think so, I've never seen anything move. I'll try to get a picture on my way home.

It wouldn't surprise me if some ancient Roman vintage chariot aficionado had a similar story to tell. Human behavior runs fairly consistent over time. For those of us that are into the older stuff, say '30s/40s, we're able to see, if we notice, that the results of this kind of behavior are coming full circle. For fun I track about 4-5 sites per day watching how older cars are available and priced. Not surprisingly there are many for sale, and many of them aren't selling. This part of the hobby isn't dead, yet, but many of the participants are, compared to the past few decades of comparatively high activity. Some folks who are still alive are trying to bail from their treasures either out of loss of interest, need to scale down life size, or the need for cash to pay for med bills or whatever else. They're pricing like 10 years ago in a market that no longer supports that. The other kind of seller appears to be the heirs of some hoarder, not unlike this Vette appears to be. Some really neat, and formerly highly sought after, old tin is coming out of the dark shadows of hoarderdom. I contend that for the guy who is genuinely interested in one of these old nifty gems this is a wonderful time to be shopping, and much easier to find them than a decade or two ago. My comparison is how difficult a time I had finding a steel '36 roadster about twenty years ago, compared to today where there's at least one, and often more (in various stages of finish/completeness) on the market at any time. Some models are still highly prized and bring strong money still, but those are the exception. Many formerly hot subjects languish on the market until either the right buyer finally sees it, or the seller finally hits their serious point where they get real on what kind of offer they accept. Sad thing is, it's disinterested heirs who are likely in control of those decisions and if they have a short attention span for the process it may be just as easy for them to trash granpa's ol' treasure(s) just to get rid of the "problem". The circle of life...………………...

That's exactly how I got the 36 Chevrolet master sedan. I saw it in the local scrap yard, and I knew Mr Carver must have passed. I had been trying to get it for 20 years. It turned out to be too much project for me, I knocked it apart and massaged out the dents and resold it.

This is how sad it is: Mr. Carver DROVE it in, and let it sit until the bottoms of the headlights and one wheel rotted slam gone.

Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

That sounds just like the guy I mentioned. That 71 Monte Carlo I talked about, he told me he put a motor in it in California and drove it here. That was 25 years ago and the car only has 76,000 miles on it. It will see the scrap yard before he lets anybody do anything with it. It's just irritating.

Let me know when his estate sale is so I can go with you and try to buy the 70 Camaro.

Here's a couple pic of the place, they aren't the greatest but it was a drive by. The Monte Carlo is parked beside the white Suburban, the 67 Camaro is parked in front of the Monte facing north and south, hard to make out but you may be able to pick out the roof line of it. The 70 Camaro and the 3100 are right in front taunting everyone that goes by.
