As the weather gets warmer, our shows in Tucson slow down. Went to a small show last weekend, parked car and left. When we came back, show was over and most cars had left. Next up is LARS in June, better weather out there.

that's a great looking car!
Some of our smaller shows are kind of like that, soon as the sun looks like it's close to the horizon...
the blue beards pack it in. it's like the headlights won't work or something!?!? Or maybe they don't want to miss an episode of the Big Band Theory?? LOL..
Our slow down is temperature....too hot for a lot of hot rods. We have driven the roadster when it was 106 deg outside with no problems...the flat motor ran about 195 both in traffic and on the freeway.
Heck we are opposite here in Missouri, it picks up this time of year, and when you see the 106 we see it also with 80% humidity, that you guys are fortunate enough to probably not have, but we have a beautiful spring & fall, makes me want to head to Tuscon for winter though!
There's some little show coming up here this weekend........something called the Lonestar Roundup? Might have to check it out.
I see where a bunch of folks are whining like stuck pigs about having to pay to enter LARS now.......
Yep, Uncle Bob, just sent my $50....not only did they start charging the roadsters, we think they raised
the booth rates and swap meet space charges..... Our car has been fortunate to be inside building 4
for the last two years but looks like outside parking this year..... at least it will allow us to leave
town Sunday morning instead of waiting on load out Sunday afternoon.
Now that the club has turned the operation over to a professional promoter no more volunteer labor, and the business needs the profit............somebody has got to pay. Might as well be you daddy-big-bucks:D
I wonder if the girls at the strip club pay to dance so the customers can pay to watch? Car shows are
one instance where the item on display pays to attend.....seems a bit twisted. Uncle Bob, Chick drove
from San Diego to the Roundup, if you see him say HI. I think he is stopping to visit on his drive
back.
I hear you on this one robot.
Without our cars the promoters have no show to attract punters.
And we pay for them to make money out of us?
Nah...if it's for a charity I don't mind so much; but if any profit is for an individual?
I'm more inclined to leave my car out on the street outside the venue.
Agreed, charity shows are OK....as long as the charity isn't the promoter's pocket!! Some of the best shows
are relatively laid back....like the one in Lake Havasu City. No trophies, no judging, no nuttin. As shows get
bigger, their expenses skyrocket...venue rental, printing, security, etc are big costs that we can all agree on.
However, squeezing your reason that people come seems silly. IF no cars show up, how long will that show
last? Around here, a show entry is $25 to $35 with a spectator entry at $5 to $10. Again, if it is a charity (especially for kids), I don't mind the $25 entry. Don't forget the "goodie bag"..... I usually give some kid the bag since I have
never found anything inside worth carrying home....not even the "free" t-shirt with crappy advertisements on them.
It's an old debate that hasn't changed much in 30 - 40 years. For all the complaints though I've never seen anyone of the whiners set up a competing show for free on the same date and just down the road to prove their point..............wonder why?
Do any of you remember when there used to be car show accompanying the Nationals and I believe the Winter Nationals. I was at the one in Indy in 61 and for the life of me I can't remember if the show came with the price of the ticket to the Nats or not.
Gee, Uncle Bob, I value your memory about "how it was" 30, 40, and even 50 years ago. Some day I will be old enough to remember that far back. Until then, I will trust your memory.
We went to one today down in Wanganui, two hours drive away from home.
It was formerly run by the Veteran/Vintage guys but for some reason they opted out; so River City Rodders took it on.
Open to all marques and all types of cars/trucks/machinery. If it had an engine of some description it was welcome.
A beautiful fine day with light winds; so we took the Cobra.
Entry fee: one gold coin per person (ie $1 or $2, your choice,) with all proceeds going to the Cancer Society.
800 to 1,000 entrants; quite a large show by our standards.
And the punters turned up in their thousands...
And there was something for everyone to gawk at...
Uncle Bob, did you make it to the Lone star Round up?
No Ryan, ended up having to deal with a couple issues at one of the rental houses. Poor planning on my part............
our season starts in jan and ends in dec. :3dSMILE:
